Milner--------did you get or do any study as to down force/drag that wing will generate????? At higher speeds you are going to get a lot of force that your floor mount/ strut looks marginal for----------I don't want to see you destroy your deck led

You bet I was sweating it drilling the holes in the deck lid. One slip and there goes my paint job. Got through it ok though, no mishaps.

Thanks for your dire warnings of impending doom, lol. You're right, as much as I researched it, I still know enough to be dangerous. Here's some things about the setup that I took into consideration.
1. Wing is 12"x41"long and is a front wing for a AA/Fuel car.
2. Trunk floor (steel) rests directly on the kickup of the frame.
3. Used angle iron bolted to the floor as framework with 1" chromalloy tubing welded to it.
4. Removable wing supports are 7/8" chromalloy which slide down into the 1" for a distance of 4". Other lengths of the 7/8" are inside the 1" base so the wing rods rest on those and not the hood pins.
5. Wing is mounted quite low below the top of the roof with just a small angle. Maybe enough to get out of the main slip stream since the roof rises at an angle to the back?
6. No back window so the airflow is further disrupted at the rear.
7. Just got through and only had it up to 60mph so far with no ill effects. The max speed the car will see is maybe 75mph on the freeway. (at least i'm honest, high 8's and 160 only exist in my head). From what i've read, that's pretty slow for a wing to really take effect but I may be wrong. I'm thinking of taping a hand held wind meter to it to see whats possibly going on with the wind flow. Any suggestions would be very welcome. Thanks for your expert input, there's really not to much info on the internet.

Well as I think you know I've been involved with a few wings--------I have tested them in the back of pick up trucks, and also have used neon colored yarn strips taped to structure to test airflow and taken pictures while wing was passing photog at different speeds------
As for what you have now-------I suggest that you add some angled bracing from your front tube just below the deck lid pass thru point forward/down to front of your mount at the floor. Then above the trunk continue in that manner from just above trunk lid point up and rearward to the rear pivot mount point.
to get an idea of forces involved----hold a clip board ( or any thing of about 12' by x width ) out the window while someone drives at 60, 75, 90? mph and determine how much force drag exists in something relative to the size of your wing?????????( loved testing a Go Kart at 120mph on top of truck camper shell with a scale hooked to nose for measuring the drag)

Thanks for the info, will add some angled bracing inside the trunk as you suggest. Good idea. Above the trunk lid i'm going to leave it as is as I need a little "wiggle room" when inserting the 7/8" wing rods into the 1" trunk tubing (.009 fit). Am going to try some yarn taped to different spots also. No problems so far. 120mph with a Go-Kart mounted on a camper shell? Makes me feel good. I thought I was the only one that had crazy ideas, lol.
