Starter problems
I can't get starter keep from grinding on car it is a high torque , I can shim it an it might start ok for a couple of times but don't never sound like a Chevy should sound it is a 489 bb 9.7to 1 idk if this could have any thing to do with it but I am using regular bolts not actual starter bolts could this have anything to do with it. Also got new spi flywheel sounds awful when trying to start

i do believe chevy starter bolts are shanked larger than standard run of the mill bolts .. i cant believe you have not gotten a reply yet .. must be a holiday or something ..iv`e used up all my sick days at work .. can i call in dead ?

True enough, the shanks also have a knurling to keep the fit tight and stop'em from loosening.
Any auto parts store worth a da_ _ will have what you need.
Oh, and use the front mount also, it'll help keep the starter square and less noisy.

30_40 got it nailed you have to use the GM bolts and the brace helps with high torque starters. When you have it all together remove the flywheel cover and have some one or yourself engage the starter, just bring the solenoid in to see if it is hitting right. If all is well go have funCharlie
