The thing is , there's a very good chance this is going to be my year round daily driver. I've really been toying around with putting a 4x4 chassis underneath it, but I don't want the pickup to look like it's a 4x4. Believe it or not lowering kits for 4x4 pickups is not something that is commonly sold on the Internet lol.Seth

Okay, read the tee shirt. It doesn't say 5.2, ls, or anything else but HEMI.....for a reason...…………..SWEET! Even the cat agrees!! Don't worry about the budget, your wife is gonna blow the kitchen remodel budget so far out of the water you'll have justification for TWO Hemis.Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon

It depends on how much work you want to do. The Dodge engine is already mounted with exhaust and power steering, cooling. You will start from scratch with the 5.3. I almost bought a low miles AWD explorter 5.0. I would be driving it now if I did, but for me I wanted to enjoy the build and make it how I want it so it created a ton more work but I have no regrets. Are you doing this because you enjoy the building process or do you want a faster finished product?
My brother is a mechanic and he has had a v8 Dakota for years, I'll text him and see what he thinks of the motor if you want.

I don't mind the build, but I'm not ready to do another project like Rita. The running rolling chassis is something I like for both of ease and dollar amount. The 318 and 360 I really don't have any questions on, but if you want to ask your brother about the 4.7 and what he knows about that engine I would appreciate that. Those Dakota's are easier to find but here seems to be a lot of mixed reviews on that engine. It may be a sign but there's lots of them on Facebook with bad engines which I wouldn't be opposed to rebuilding if it's worth it.Seth

My brother has the 318, he says it a good motor, he likes it.

I stopped by another mechanic today and ask him about the 4.7. He did not recommend one either, he also recommended go with the 318. I've heard and read that some people have had very good experiences with their 4.7, but I'm not willing to roll the dice. The problem is just about every two wheel drive Dakota has the 4.9 in it instead of the 5.2. Oh well, I guess I got time to look.Seth

Find me a 4bt Cummins for a reasonable price and it will defiantly be an option. The guy I got these pickups from pieced together a Pilot Cab Dodge and has a twin turbo 5.9 in it pushing about a 1000 hp , it may be related to him owning a diesel performance shop Here is a pic of it .Last edited by 53 Chevy5; 04-04-2019 at 07:49 PM.
