'56 hit by a deer this morning...

On my way to Downtown Flint for Back to the bricks... Less then a half mile from the house. Two bucks running hard out of a cornfield right alongside the road. JUST missed the first one, the second one ran right into the side of the right front fender.
Police report and a claim in to Hagerty and we will see how this goes...

I will be looking for a fender and trim if anyone has them laying around.

Big dents. How big was this deer? We never used to see'um up here.. now you can't help but see them everywhere. I've had one run right into the side of my daily driver. Not as much damage as your 56 but the car was months old...

I have seen them on the side of the road here all the time Fawns get hit all the time. I have seen them where they(some one) has cut the head off assuming for the rack. see deer here all the time even in town, and my back yard. They can really tear up a car.

He got up and kept going after the crash. He may die from injuries later but he was kickin' it hard on his way west... They are almost like sheep around here, we have two does that raise their fawns in our back yard...

That sucks, I'm kind of curious how hagerty insurance is to deal with. On the bright side, a hit on the front fender is way better then a hit in the rear quarter.

Yeah, I had to file a claim on the 46 with Haggerty and they were great. You shouldn't have any problems.

Sorry to hear about your car.

Our insurance for Rita is under American Modern Collector Vehicle. Has anybody heard of them or have experience with them? my sister-in-law works for an insurance agency and she got us the plan. I was just looking at the plan, and under the mileage tier it says 1000 miles per year. It's been on the road three years and has 6,300 miles on it, do you think they can do the math? Lol I better get that updated.

Yes sir, get that looked into because it will be a show stopper...
I have a buddy who runs a Hagerty approved repair shop. He says he & Hagerty will take of me. I hope so. Everyone I have talked to says Hagerty is great...
Couldn't say how big he was... I never really saw the whole deer during the incident. He was just a flash in the corner of my eye when he hit the car and all I saw of him running off was his tail and hindquarters.

Bummer - but the good news is that nobody (well except the deer) was hurt and we can fix things a lot easier than people. I've never hit a deer, come close a couple times and had a real short-scraper with an elk that I swear weighed two tons that literally jumped in front of me. Good friends hit a deer and did $10K damage to a new Tahoe.

Glad you're okay and sounds like you've got the right insurance on this car.

    Best,
    Glenn

I'm glad you weren't hurt and the damage wasn't worse. They sure can tear up things!

Haven't updated much. This was a couple of weeks ago.
The front fenders are off now. One nice thing is everything seems to be relatively rust free.
I have an RFQ out to a media blasting shop near where I work so we'll see what it'll cost to have the everything blasted. I talked to the owner on the phone and he was very knowlegable about blasting sheet metal.
My wife thinks the car looks very sad now... It does I guess but just wait...

I think I'll be saving myself some money on this fender. This is after a couple of hours of dead blow hammer and off dollie work. I've got it to a point where the paint needs to come off so I can feel where the surface is. I am having the whole front clip media blasted next week. There is a lot to do yet but I think the fender will be usable with a couple more hours of hammer time and a lot of blocking...

Still lots to do but it is getting there... The paint has to come off though. I can't see or feel where the actual surface is because of the heavy layers of paint. I can tell it is close though.

Getting the outside straight took some time but it is very close right now.

Wish me luck in getting this straight! (This has changed a bit...)
