    Thinking about chopping my Taxi

    Hello all,
I have a 1966 Checker Marathon. (Pic Attached) I've been considering chopping it down lately and I have a few questions.

    1. It's nice having a car that is cool to drive and also very useful. The trunk is huge, overheard clearance is huge, backseat is huge, etc. Do you all miss having the extra headroom?
    2. It has sofa seats in front and back and I sit pretty upright up front. Would I need to get rid of the sofa seats and install buckets if I wanted to consider chopping?
    3. Since my car is a 66' the glass in front and back is somewhat curved although the sides are not. Would I need a custom glass piece made or do most of you who chop find a smaller glass piece and mold it into the design somehow?
    4. Does anyone here work with photoshop and could produce some images of what my car would look like chopped? Or does anyone know anywhere on the internet I could have that done? Thanks. Matt

You could use your stock glass if you cut the glass frames out in one piece and laid them down.

I'll give it a try, but I'm not good with 3/4 pictures. Do you have a good side view?

Yea here is a sideview. Unfortunately I don't have any newer good pics with the tint I had put on. I'll just have to picture it. Here's the sideview although if you have some spare time and feel like doing the 3/4 I'd really appreciate it.

Hey Matt, here's a quick mild chop of your Checker in the first pic with the 3/4 view.

    Thanks for forwarding the pics.
From the 1st pic back of it chopped what do you guys think? I like the look of the low fat sleek car. Sorta what most merc customs look like. I like the lead sled look. I've showed a couple friends of mine and they think it looks weird. I think thats just because its a photoshop job and they cant see it in person.

    Question 1 -

    1. Does it look like I'd need to lower the car? I'm thinking 1-2 inches max.
    2. Do most choppers cut the same amount at the front and back or more in front/more in back?

I restored the car in my driveway. How long would a job like this take me? I've watched car shows where a team of guys did it in a day. Could I do it in a weekend not counting painting? Matt

Sorry I took so long. I kind of got carried away a bit. You have your work cut out for you if you do what's been done. Chopped, channeled, sectioned, shaved door handles, rear door welded shut, 9" ford rear end, 33 X 18.5 ET Streets, Weld wheels, and fix the roof on the garage, sorry. Oh, and something happened to the electrical box on the garage too.

HA! A little more than I asked for/wanted. Got anything a tad less extreme? Perhaps only a chop top?

This is a little less work. I really like the other one though. It's just a mild chop.

I like the look. Weldin' the back doors shut might cut down on cab fares tho. He He

Gimme a few minutes to re-size that first picture, it's too large.

Im not too efficient at photoshop, think you could take the less extreme pic and drop the car 2-3 inches to the ground?

I hear youre pretty good at the photoshop chop jobs. Up to you if you want to give a crack at it. I'm always welcome to other ideas or looks. Maybe you can do the sideview with the chop top and the 2-3 drop in the car? Matt
