Dangerously HotRods?
Everytime HotRods roll out of the garages with powerful V8s and 400+bhp under the hood, they have 99% of tendency to be driven hard...
My question is when HotRods get driven so fast...it may be unstable and may generate lift because builders and designers often go for rad looking stuff and not really focus on aerodynamics...most won't hot rod designs don't go near the windtunnel...
Or I'm I wrong that HotRods are dangerous?
This newbie needs help
ThanxOvertake or be overtaken !

It's been my observation that most hot rodders have more common sense then the common driver, They know their hot rods better than their wifes, girlfriends even bestfriends, as they have spent more time and money with their hot rod then the women or friends. They know when they build a huge horsepower motor that is only half the project, the other half is making it stop, and most drivers of real hot rods (pre 1949) are also the buliders and they know what it took to get to the point of driving their hot rod so they baby them, some to the point of getting them into a nice rubber room (I've been there).............But my point is, that most true hot rodders, if they have that kind of horse power, they respect it and build a car (chassis, supports, etc.) to handle that kind of toque and power.
There so much you can buy for hot rods today that parts list is just about endless so you can make any car as safe as you want or can afford....Hope this helped.
When you go to a race, car show or just go stomping thru a salvage yard, take a kid....pass on the love of cars so our sport doesn't die with the turner crowd.....Rat Rods Rule!!

It's been my experience that if you build them right.........you drive them right.

I think that most hot rodders do as I did when building a fast hot rod. I installed a high horsepower engine AFTER I rebuilt and modified the suspension and brakes.

Anything is dangerous if you put it in the hands of an idiot. Fortunately, hot rods do not have to be designed and built to be operated by the average idiot sporting a drivers license. Check out the accident statistics for hot rodders, far lower than that of the general motoring public.
If you don't think hot rodders understand aerodynamics, I would suggest you attend Bonneville this fall and see just how fast and how safe some of our homebuilt toys do go.Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

If you build a car for Many of $$$$$$$ your not going to go out and wrap it around a tree. A person who puts any engine in thats more than the origional in HP and torque is going to put some brakes that will stop him. HOT RODS are NOT DANGEROUS, ONLY THE DRIVERS ARE WHO DON'T GIVE A SH--!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Keep smiling, it only hurts when you think it does!

Ferrari Lover
Hey, there, if you really love Ferraris and really believe hotrods are dangerous, why are you even posting in the Club Hot Rod Forums?
Most of us have built many a vehicle and I dare say that we take our on safety and the expenses we have in the car very seriously. If any thing, most of us have a tendency to over engineer.
Ferraris are cool but for the expense of purchasing and upkeep on one a person could build many a hotrod.Duane S

The only time I drive mine hard is when some yuppie fool in a Benz or Beemer needs to be spanked. It's like catch and release. After you get spanked you're free to go. I don't play tag. I only pass you once and it's over for me. You can drive off at top speed if you want but the thrill is gone once you've been spanked
When you consider the design of an 81 Benz you have to wonder why they would do wind tunnel tests and still make them as areodynamic as a cardboard box.
P.S.
If you click on the "edit" button you can fix all the mistakes you made so that we don't have to guess what you're trying to say.Last edited by The Al Show; 05-22-2004 at 01:44 PM.

If some attention where paid to the "Build" section of this forum or study the suspension threads you would have had your question answered. Every Rod builder that I know has put alot more time into making his/or her chasis as modern and as safe as can be humanly possibly, probably alot safer than your Benz. With that in mind, controlled fast driving is very easy to do safely and is also something that is DONE very seldomly as Al show said.

.....and, at least for me, a big reason for putting in a high horsepower engine is the BRAGGING RIGHTS. I have a BB Ford that someday will get stroked to 514 cubes. Why? Because it's impressive. Will I drive the car "hard" 99% of the time? Nooooooo -- you don't spend that kind of capital on something (don't forget the cost of the rest of the car!) just to dive like an idiot and wreck it! I think The Al Show has it right: Power when you need it for spankin'. The rest is for the bragging.--Doug

A "skip" = a dumpster.... but he says it's proper english??? Oh.. Okay. Most of us can see the dating site pun, "matching" with an arsonist.. But a "SKIP? How is that a box? It must all be...
