I agree with you tech, there is always a catch with parts manufacturers, and to their benifit. I personal love the wrecking yards and the shade tree habits that I have developed over the years, besides anyone can build a car out of a catalog, it takes ingenuity to build one out of a pile of rusted parts!!
Thanks guys and I hope that I haven't made anyone mad.
Nice car Truck, looking good!

Well Brickman, let it cool down for a while but let us know what you did and the results. I kind of got caught between two local guys with a LOT of experience. On the one hand it is a sure thing that heating will change the temper of the spring and the high-buck labor-intensive method is to remove, cut and replace the springs, BUT if you keep wet rags on the upper part of the spring and don't let them burn or dry out maybe you can do the "one-coil-collapse" carefully. It may be a while till you test the ride on the road but it would be interesting to know what the result was in terms of the ride.

Thats great Lt1, thats good to know!! I will avoid you all on a bad day!!
Don this weekend will tell the tale, I can't wait to get back out to the shop. I hate it when work cuts into my rodding time! I already have all the parts to finish the truck and get it out of the shop. My '48 is outside with a cover on her and she isn't in a good mood. HeHeHe! I am going crazy not working on it. Our first cruise-in of the year is a week from tomorrow and the truck will be there."Sunshine, a street rod and a winding beautiful Ozarks road is truely Bliss!"

This is my first post, although I have been lurking for quite some time. I am working on a 1950 Chevy Styleline Deluxe 2 dr Sedan. I have most of the deconstruction complete. As of now, all I have on the frame is the shell. I will be putting on a MII kit for the front. Haven't decided which one yet. Any suggestions would be helpful. For the rear end, I have a leaf spring conversion kit to use with my 68 camaro rear axle. I have a 400 sbc engine to install. My wife bought me all new digital gauges for Christmas, that was cool. Transmission, undecided. Many things left to decide, but I am on the 3 year plan. I will be installing all new harnessing and 12v components.
Anyone who has already put a sbc into a 50 Chevy, please share your knowledge with me. I am concerned that where ever I buy new engine mounts that they will not come with the correct mounting dimensions for proper engine mounting angle and placement. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome ctuggle1, I am not absolutely sure but I can almost guess that there will be some fabricating to do. Changes are since it is just a little different than my '48, you will probly have to remove the old center crossmember to install your MSII ifs. If so you will have to buy or build motor mounts to place in there. I used a standard pinto/msII set-up out of a wrecking yard, had to remove everything that was stock."Sunshine, a street rod and a winding beautiful Ozarks road is truely Bliss!"

Yup. Since the 1950 Chevy didn't come with a V-8 from the factory there won't be any motor mounts for it, unless somebody makes after market mounts, or you can find a newer model that might interchange. Fabrication time?
Not familiar with 50 Chevy. My guess is they had a single motor mount on the front of the engine?? Am I right or way off base?Last edited by pro70z28; 02-28-2005 at 07:30 PM.

There are 3 motor mounts on the 50. One on the Front Axle Weldment and one on each side mounted to the frame rails. There are several companies that are offering engine mounts. I just have not picked which one I want to use yet. Thanks for the Pic. Looks almost the same as mine. I have already completed the disassembly of the front axle asm. I am working on prepping the frame and underside of the body for paint.
Thanks for the responses.

I took the engine out about a month ago. I don't remember for sure, but I am thinking there were 2 bolts on the front crossmember. I just got rid of the xmember 2 weeks ago along with the engine, or I would check. Sorry, I don't remember for sure. Done lots of work since then.

I finally got the truck home.....almost! I did the lowering thing with the torch and lowered the truck 2" so far, but it was too dark for photo's. It drove great (no change)and rode just a little stiffer than it did before. I was feeling cocky and jumped on it a little harder coming home after leaving a stop sign and when it hit second gear it destroyed the rear universal. My mistake though, after getting the truck and the tranny was shot, only natural to replace the U-joint's too right? But No!!!!!It was fun while it lasted boys!!! Nothing like BB Mopar HP!!!"Sunshine, a street rod and a winding beautiful Ozarks road is truely Bliss!"

Here it is with it's ugly wheels & tires, no cleaning or body work done, sitting in all it's glory! The rear end has been lowered 7 inches and the front 2 inches. I will also be putting on some tires in the front that will lower it 2 more inches in the front this weekend. It rides pretty good, I did get it home today, I found out that mopars have retainer clips on thier U-joints. Go figure! Next step will be new wheels and tires and the body work done and primered for now."Sunshine, a street rod and a winding beautiful Ozarks road is truely Bliss!"
