oh, 1 of the lucky states we have saftey inspections here for pre '96 vehicles.. emissions equipment must be in tact and match the emissions tag.. it does not have to be operable tho... being '88-up Ranger/ Bronco II are non EGR, as long as you had cats, PCV and the charcoal canister in place under the hood.. your bronco II would pass NYS inspection w/o a problem

Interesting point Matt. During the course of my research I've found that a properly set up supercharged engine with a good electronics package will be cleaner then a normally aspirated engine anyway..... Heck, the AFR 185 heads are 50 state legal, as is the supercharger!!!! When it's done, might have to run it through one of the emissions testers somewhere just to see how good it does.... Heck, I could end up with a Hot Rod that the tree huggers like!!!!!!

Dave you could apply for ultra clean emmision standards, and drive in the commuter lanes with no extra passenger! Welcome to California!
I fall into an exempt stautus from smog by the nature of my trucks age. Somebody in it's history put a historic vehicle plate on it(which make me laugh thinking old Henry did'nt think to put a 460 in there for quite a few years after it was built!

you never know.. GM has quite a few supercharged engines still. might supprise you.. did the '88 have a charcoal canister?

it's a good thing NY doesn't sniff cars. I had 2 sensors out of range ( TPS and MAP ) and it was going way rich because of it... got a MAP from Napa for $35 and bought a close out TPS from rockauto for $30 with shipping, and it was a genuine ford part.. reset the computer and it's all better now.. b4 I reset the computer, it was running like a pile of crap with the new sensors, but it was using the incorrect values at that time....

with the 2.9 and 5spd, it's a pretty quick truck actully..

Don't remember, Matt.... I didn't waste a lot of time getting the old stuff out. Friend of mine got it all and put it in his son's Ranger---runs like a top I guess... Had the same setup as yours, 2.9 and 5 speed.

yea, charcoal canisters are on the driver side front of the engine compartment, right next to the radiator... the 1 on my truck is broke free from it's mount, and is obviously damaged but due to the loose inspection's for NYS on the older vehicles.. it's still hooked up correctly, it passes.... my truck has 197,000 and doesn't skip a beat.. and I just did a little smoke show with it today.. got it into 2nd with the tires still spinning, let off of it, but I might have been able to get it into 3rd and chirp them.. not bad for 177CI

Don't know if mine is still around or not Matt, I'll look and see tomorrow.

Got the rest of the big side window frame on the left side of the Bronco cleaned up and capped today... Structurally, it took a bit of weight out, and made the pillars a lot stronger.... Best of both, lighter and stronger!!!!

Tom stopped by today on his way home from pheasant hunting to check out his coupe, have to have it ready for him to take home at Thanksgiving time. Should make it.

Helped a friend cut the trunk floor out of a '58 chebbie Bel Air today, nice car!!! Just some surface rust and a few small holes in the floor, the owner wanted to have the whole floor replaced anyway! Sez it's a keeper and warrants getting things done right! Nice car, and I don't even like chebbies!!

    Dave,
    I made it home OK
You were asking me if I knew of a 57 Ford for sale..... well there's a 58 between your place and I-29, its at that place that has all the chrysler products.
About your Bronco front end....... now I know you will most likely balk at this but think of the design of a 67 Chev pickup. The 69 and up were boxy like your Bronco but the 67s were quite streamline. I saw a 70 chopped and the guy put the 67 front end on it, looked pretty nice.
Thanks for all the work you've done on my coupe, I just wanted to stay there and keep rubbing my hands over it's smooth body
    What a contrast!
