Yeah I suppose it is a harmless addiction.
Thanks 406Rich. I am actually liking it more and more. Having all the pearl in it definitely makes it a unique red. I think I like it more when the light isn't shining on it then when it is but knowing me that may change as well.Mark Smith

Yes it will be black along with the running boards and fender welt. The Charger I seen had some black accents and I really liked them. If I decide I don't I can always paint the grill later.
I was looking at my pics and this one actually shows how the light changes the color. If you look at the body you can see how much darker it looks without a lot of light. So the black will go good with it I think.Mark Smith

Of course, it's your car and you can do it however you want. For me, there is nothing about the shape or design of the 36 Ford grill that says, "Paint me black" unless the rest of the car is black. In fact I think the 36 Ford grill looks a little weird when completely chromed. The shape of it seems like a continuation of the fenders & hood and the color change disrupts the flow of the body lines. I do like the chrome trim on a body-colored grill though. I think the black running boards will be great and practical if they are black rubber. Again, I think you're doing great work on the car. We all have different tastes and opinions on the details and I certainly don't mean to be offensive with mine. There are many things that look good on a new Charger that won't look good on a 36 Ford. Looking forward to seeing the completed car! ;-)"It is not much good thinking of a thing unless you think it out." - H.G. Wells

When I first read the part about a black grille my brain assumed you meant it in the usual way a '36 is done. Then the exchange between you and Randy made me pull up. I'll put up a pic just so others can follow what's meant in the commentary. Personally I'd recommend you paint the portion of the grille assembly outside the stainless trim the same color as the rest of the car. Doing the portion inside the trim in black should look great. Doing the whole assembly in black will give you too large a mass of the contrasting color (part of why the chrome ones don't look so good), plus the squared corners at the back edge will be very disruptive to the eye as there aren't any other square lines on the body.Last edited by Bob Parmenter; 02-03-2011 at 04:34 PM.
