Yeah I suppose it is a harmless addiction.

Thanks 406Rich. I am actually liking it more and more. Having all the pearl in it definitely makes it a unique red. I think I like it more when the light isn't shining on it then when it is but knowing me that may change as well.

I think the color is looking pretty sweet!! Are you saying the grill is going to be black?? I would do the grill the same color as the rest of the car unless it is chrome. Nice work!!

I took therapy for years to break myself of that red addiction. I faltered when I painted my car, but was able to get an emergency treatment.

Great color - now the real fun is coming cut 'n' buff

Yes it will be black along with the running boards and fender welt. The Charger I seen had some black accents and I really liked them. If I decide I don't I can always paint the grill later.

I was looking at my pics and this one actually shows how the light changes the color. If you look at the body you can see how much darker it looks without a lot of light. So the black will go good with it I think.

Well you faltered in a good way I would say. I like the color you chose for your car.

I don't know if I would call cut and buff fun.

Of course, it's your car and you can do it however you want. For me, there is nothing about the shape or design of the 36 Ford grill that says, "Paint me black" unless the rest of the car is black. In fact I think the 36 Ford grill looks a little weird when completely chromed. The shape of it seems like a continuation of the fenders & hood and the color change disrupts the flow of the body lines. I do like the chrome trim on a body-colored grill though. I think the black running boards will be great and practical if they are black rubber. Again, I think you're doing great work on the car. We all have different tastes and opinions on the details and I certainly don't mean to be offensive with mine. There are many things that look good on a new Charger that won't look good on a 36 Ford. Looking forward to seeing the completed car! ;-)

I take no offense at all. It wouldn't be fun if we all had the same likes and dislikes. And it is good to have other people give suggestions. Helps me think of things I may not have on my own. I never liked the grills chromed on the 36 either.

When I first read the part about a black grille my brain assumed you meant it in the usual way a '36 is done. Then the exchange between you and Randy made me pull up. I'll put up a pic just so others can follow what's meant in the commentary. Personally I'd recommend you paint the portion of the grille assembly outside the stainless trim the same color as the rest of the car. Doing the portion inside the trim in black should look great. Doing the whole assembly in black will give you too large a mass of the contrasting color (part of why the chrome ones don't look so good), plus the squared corners at the back edge will be very disruptive to the eye as there aren't any other square lines on the body.

Thanks for further expressing my point, Bob. From the pic in his avatar, it looks like he's planning to have the whole grill painted black as opposed to the way you described. That's why I brought it up.

Good points Bob. I have been going back and forth on painting the whole (grille) lol or just the bars. It definitely looks better the whey you did yours but it is sooo much easier to just paint the whole thing black. lol

Seriously, Mr Smith?? After all the extensive and labor intensive mods you've made to frame & body of this car and you're going to get lazy about masking off the grill to paint it right?? LOL!! Come on, dude, the grill is no place to take short cuts! LOL!
