I think Bob did great on his grill. Body color looks a little too 80's and chrome (and all black) doesn't work for reasons already mentioned. Then again I can't pick out anything I don't like on Bob's coupe .

Bob - I have been eyeing the '36 hood sides and your close up shot confirms I like them much more than the '35. Am I correct in assuming that the 35 and 36 hood sides are not interchangeable because of the different grills? 35 sides are probably longer??

Good observation on "that '80s thing", funny how some folks miss that.

I'm not as familiar with '35s, but yes, the side panel is longer, and may be different at the top hinge and in the contour over the fender. As for liking the '36 better it would be a matter of what it is you think you prefer about it. The louver portion is probably a bit longer on the '35, but looks to be pretty much visually the same general configuration. The primary difference is the trim count, 4 on the '35, 3 on the '36. They hang over each end farther on the '36 but that may be due to that length of louver area thing. You might gain the look you want by eliminating one of the '35 trim pieces and dropping the middle one down equidistant between the remaining two. It would mean filling a bunch of little holes on each side though.

I do like the 3 trim pieces versus the cluttered 4 on the 35, but mostly I have noticed that the louvers on the '36 are flush in the panel where as on the '35 they are raised from the side panel. Hard to explain what I mean, but I googled this picture to try and show it. Certainly I could cut up '36 side panels and use the louvers in mine, but I would probably not go through all that.

You COULD just purchase a pair of plain hood sides from Rootleib and cut 'n' trim 'n' paste to your hearts content. After I damaged my first pair of hood sides for my 'A' I ordered up another set with no holes, brackets, louvers, etc and will eventually come up with something I like - or they might just stay plain.

That's a good idea Dave, it might even be worth checking with them to see if they do a stock style vent and if they'd punch the '35 sides with the '36 vents.

I was actually just looking at their site earlier today, but hadn't thought of using thier plain sides to add a vent or even having them punch the '36 style into '35 sides. I notice though that they don't have stock style options for '35 and '36. I don't hate the other options they have either. At one point I liked the scoop style side they have, but I might have outgrown that already. My stock hood is pretty banged up and I would like a 3 piece so getting theirs with plain sides to do with what I want might be the best idea. I could even cut the louvers out of my hood and fit them flush to mimic the '36. My trim should still work ok doing it that way also, but I like how the '36 trim extends past the louvers so I'd probably cut off a few louvers. This is all brainstorming for now anyway because the car will be run without a hood until it is painted.

Worth calling to verify, they do more than they show on their site.

You're right Bob I should give them a call. I just don't feel like paying a premium for a custom job if I could give it a go myself . I'll see what they could do for me though.

Thought I would share some shots of my dash as it developed.

Here are the latest. I liked the way this turned out so much that at one point I had thought about making a fiberglass mold and selling the dashes but decided it would delay things too much.

Thats slick............. And it's really nice to see an original dash. I think you have a winner there.

Thank you. It does help to see the difference from original to current dash.

I'm trying to figure out how you have so much room to fit those buckets and console in there . I probably should have mounted my seats and inch or so further apart on either side because I think I'd be lucky to fit a console nearly half that wide, but I was worried about feeling too close to the door especially once I have door panels.

There are a few factors that enabled me to put that console in. 1st I searched for a long time to find the skinniest one I could and it is only around 4 or 5". wide. 2nd I found the skinniest seats I could, about 22". wide. 3rd since I moved my firewall back about 10" to fit the Hemi I also moved the seats back to the widest part of the car. And 4th I was able to move my steering column a little to the left to line up almost center with my seat.
