Engine questions
i was wondering what kinds of engine are their for american cars and what kind of engines can i put together with a car. dose that make sence, let me try this again example for Honda Civics, Or Acura Integra's i know that a b16(Civic Type R) engine will fit in both the integra and the civic and the b18( Integra GSR) and h22(prelude engines) will fit in both make of cars, you know what i mean? so what im asking is whats the deal with like big block small block and so on? how would i know what kind of motor would fit in the car that i would want? also do you guess just get new motors for the cars, or some times rebuild it and get bigger valves and pistions and so on for more power? can you guys help me?

Ok, many times rebuilt engines actually are better than new. Most GMs will fit other GMs, most ford will fit other Fords. SB and BB have to do with the amount of material on the block. Therefore, you can get more displacement from a BB than a small block. New engines are good, but crate engines are worth the money if you have it. Crate engine being HP already made. Components are usually only swappable between same make engines. Pontiac to Pontiac, Chevy to Chevy, Olds to Olds. Hope this helps, and if you need to know more, just ask.Right engine, Wrong Wheels

so pretty much what you said their is the i can take any Chevy Motor and place it into another chevy, but i can not take a chevy motor and put it into a ford... ok i watch alot of car shows even if it dosnt have to do with jap cars, have you guys seen that shows Trucks and Two guys Garage, well iv seen alot of episodes with them talking about crate engines, how much dose a crate engine go for at the least? im not sure if this is right but correct me if im wrong if i change the motor i have to change the wirte harness, but even if i didnt have to it would be a good idea to do it because of the car being so old right!

Peter,
Basically, You can put any motor in any car as long as you have the time, the tools, and the tenacity. Know from right up front, a lot of engine swaps takes some real engineering.
I've made a 409 Chevy 47 Ford Coupe, early Chrysler Hemi 49 Ford sedan, a 430 buick powered 69 Camaro, A 400M Ford powered Fairmont wagon, a 390 Ford powered 61 Falcon, among many of my vehicles I've built over the years.
Each swap created obstacles that had to be bested. But They can be done if you are determined and use your head.Duane S
