what color
I,m building a 1948 Chevy trk.....top chopped 3 1/2", doors lengthened 3"(thanks to uncle Bob)., frenched antenna, lowered 12",94 Chevy bed narrowed 13" w/the original 48 fenders(narrowed), 64 caddy tail fins(5 feet long).....etc
Now comes the problem. What color. I seem to paint everything red but, I am also considering Harley Davidson orange & Prowler yellow.
What do you guys think? I would like to stay w/a non metallic color.Don Meyer, PhD-Mech Engr(48 GMC Trk/chopped/cab extended/caddy fins & a GM converted Rolls Royce Silver Shadow).

With Caddy fins I would suggest "Aztec Red" from the El Dorado. I had a '47 Ford Convt painted that color back in the '50s and it pulls the eyes out of your head! Since then I have had another car (MG midget) painted with DuPont acrylic and I tried to get the Aztec Red again but I ended up with a sort of "burnt orange" but it was really glossy. I commend you on being brave enough to admit you have a Ph.D. in the midst of all this practical experience. Alas I have wasted my career on Physical Chemistry and Quantum Mechanics as a Professor with a Ph.D. in Chemistry, but it helps little here since I am a novice with the SBC technology but I appreciate access to expertise here. Is there a thread with some history of this site, ie how it got started? Anyway take a look at the color chart for El Dorado Aztec Red, I think it is the "hottest" red in a plain color, and definitely goes with Caddy fins!

Orange and black would only look cool on haloween. But if you're tired of painting everything red check out 77 Ford truck "vista orange" code U. I painted a 47 Studebaker pickup with it and gold ghost flames. It looked so good a friend had me do his Harley with the same colors. Everybody liked that too. The flames didn't show up in pictures. You had to get close to notice them. Red and yellow pinstriping look good on orange paint." Im gone'

Lamborghini has one hell of a bright ass tri-stage pearl orange that would look nice, I think its on the 2000-2003 years
They also have a sweet looking tri-stage bright pearl yellow too on the same years.

Black with silver on the fin.
or
Orange with white fins would look OK
or
a Cherry red would definitely look good
if I was doing it one solid color I like a raspberry black or Roman red (Impala SS color)
Maybe something more of the era would look sweet also, like the teal and salmon combo
I like setting off the fins with a contrasting color. Appears more nastalgic that way.
That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

Hey Don,
Maybe you could put up a side, or 3/4 shot, and one of the Photoshop "studs" like TL could lay out the color for you to evaluate.
I'd love to make a suggestion, but most of the color combos that pop into my mind are either pearl or metallic, not the solid color you prefer. A warm orange shade, or copper tone coupled with creme and just a touch of gold at the color break keep cycling through my mind.Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon

Ok gang. It's been awhile. With everything that was going on taking care of my mom's affairs and making a few needed mods to the Healey, it was June before anything really got rolling on this...
