You sure do seem to read a lot into posts. I didn't say there was a thing wrong with Holley's. Personally, I prefer fuel injection. If I run a carb on something that's going racing, it's usually a Predator. And btw Scooter, I don't see any reason I would have to try to impress you or anyone else on this site. And as far as name calling, far be it for me to compete with you, I am obviously in the presence of a master in the name calling arena !!!!!

"respect is earned, not something you are given. The price of respect is experience, honesty, integrity, and tolerance. "

    Hey Dave,

If what you say is true on the respect issue, the word tolerance means to tolerate all! From what I have been reading, you don't seem to tolerate much...only when it's your opinion. If anybody disagrees with you you don't seem to "tolerate" it. So I guess you don't deserve my respect, but you are fun to debate with.

    Gasser,
I remember being in your position and let me tell you it doesn't get any easier. I belonged to a Street Rod club at 20, was called "young pup" for almost 20 years! And you know what, I still am perceived that way by most people over the age of 55 - don't worry about it so much, I think they are all scared of us "young pups" growing up so they feel they have to try to keep us down, and they use the word respect as a whipping stick to make us feel inferior. Don't let it bother you so much cause they'll all die soon and we will be the "know-it-alls!" and then we all will have to remember how we were treated and give the young uns the respect they deserve!!!!!

You are wrong, feeder. I tolerate anyone until they began the name calling, swearing, or saying their stuff is gold and everyone else's is nothing buy worthless rocks. As far as your respect, I really don't care if I earn it or not. Final thought, you will eventually be an old fart, and we will all be dead. Then you can put up with 17 and 14 year olds cursing at you if you want to. I chose not too.

HEHEHEHEHEHEHE Print this out and mothball it for about 30 years. When you read it then you will laugh at yourself, I guarantee it. I was saying the EXACT same thing at your age. And I felt EXACTLY like you do. (one editors note here: I take that back. Even when I was young I NEVER disrespected older people, even if I disagreed with them. Maybe cuz' there would be hell to pay if I did.) And no matter how much we try to explain it you will NEVER understand until your older. You think you won't change right? HEHEHEHEHEHEHE. It's just the natural progression of life. Like it or not ............. as sure as your hearing, vision, reaction time (And a few other things) will change .......... so will your attitude. and the beauty of it is you won't even know it. Some day down the road, you'll jut wake up to the fact that you've grown up. And the only way you will realize you HAVE grown up is to look back on your life and ONLY THEN will you understand what we are saying.
I think kids are ignorant by design. If they knew ahead of time what experiences are ahead of them to get to maturity it might just scare the beegeebeez out of em'.

And contrary to what you may think, this isn't a knock against you ......... it's just life. When we were your age it was drilled into our heads to respect our elders. That's a foreign concept today. Once you learn respect you will be wise beyond your years. If you don't think that's true, you've just proven my point.

Note to self: Save this file : Young people who know it all: . Copy and paste as necessary. Aptly applies to young people universally. It's human nature at work.

i prefer to call them HOT RODS
Regardless of what you prefer, rat rods are a subgroup of hot rods. Seems to me like ratrodders are the only ones who want the "hot rod" name exclusively for themselves.

the REAL hot rods are where it is at
See what I mean? Ratrods are the only REAL hot rods.

just because it didnt cost 300 grand dont mean its not as good or better
And just because it cost only $49.95 doesn't make it better either. A car is more about concept, planning, and execution than it is about cost. If it's safe and what you like, more power to you.

people who dont drive there car until its finished are wussies
Actually, people who don't drive their cars until they're finished just have a different idea about building rods than you do.

i think people dont like rat rods cuz dere scurd of em!
I think "mildly amused" is more like it.

i mean id rather have a car that if it got kicked or crashed into at 5-20 mph would only leave a dent instead of a hole
Ah yes. The "beater" mentality. I should drive a piece of crap so if anything happens to it, it won't be so traumatic. Note to self: "Sell house, buy beat-up house trailer. No sense in taking chances with the good stuff."

    History Lesson

This thread was kind of quietly discussing a television show that commented on where the ratrod name originated, and what we saw on the show. There were no real argumentative posts AT ALL, until the following four appeared. Guess who posted them?

Any fool should be able to make a street rod with loads of money. But it takes dedication to build a kool kar with no money.

A period correct rod with a glass body (OXY MORRON) they make enough patch panels now that all you need is an upper half of a early ford a or b to make a body if you dont have the time or dedication to build a real car than build a red glass kit car or order one from 1 800 red rods . but please do not do the real history of rodding or yourself an injustace of painting fake rust or patina on a glass body

I agree that glass bodys have a secondary place in the hobbie but in my opinion a steel body will always win my heart .

sorry about the glass thing but I think the same about the steel repro bodies if a good rod body is not affordable try a newer car and have fun maybe even a 4 door .

Final question: Who started the pisssing match?

    the beater mentality?

maybe it is but id rather fix dents then holes. and thats the other thing your spose to drive em!!! i would rather have a car thats looks like it has been driven then sitting under a bubble. and for the people who do have trailer queens whats cool about that? they spend 100 grand plus just to have it under a cover or in a bubble in there garage so they can look at it. thats liek the complete oppisite of hot rodding

Correct me if im wrong but based on this "Rat Rod" definition that they are unfinished/work in progress build projects, that would make everyone of us a "Ratrodder" at sometime or another. Ya all of us may not be driving them as we're building them but we still have one. Im as guilty as anyone becouse when i was younger i drove my rods when they were not finished. As Streets said, they are really NEVER done, so i guess i still am one. Read into these threads what you want, have an open mind, you might learn something, it is possable that these geezers might know something, throw enough $h** against the wall and some is bound to stick!!

most rodders in okc have a fat wallet i dont mind the fiberglass
rods but prefer older rods with older technology .
all i ever see is street rod powered by 350 it can be a ford dodge or chevy doesnt matter i can understand if its a studebaker or something like that we really dont have common cars here
everyone has 32 to 34 fords or 40s models
and of course the 55-57 chevy
thats the reason i have a 1955 ford 2 dr wagon
something that is not commonly seen at shows or cruises
i go to carshows cruises all the time i never see any 55 ford wagons especially 2 drs
i do have a 351 cleveland in mine maybe its not vintage like some stuff but its still a ford motor not a 350 .
ratrods make me think of the 1950s the decade i should have been a teenager in .

Dr's. Henry and Pro: sure is great to have 2 psychologists in residence on this site. You two did an excellent job analyzing and dissecting some of the posts. I was gonna do the "respect your elders" thing but I thought it would just raise the anymosity level. You gentlemen handled it in an excellent manner.

Oh, Gasser, my last "trailer queen" only cost about $31,000 to build. Sorry it didn't meet your $100,000 criteria, I will try to come up with more money to spend on the Ranchero project. You know what? The roadster I mentioned in a previous post that had 18,000 miles and had been driven by yours truly, the geezer, on numerous trips, one to the West Coast, and another to Key West, Fl. and returned to South Dakota by way of Brattleboro, Vt. That was just my last car, been on many other trips in some of my other " trailer queens". Oh, by the way, it was a roadster, and roadsters do not have tops. So, anyway, tell me more about driving your car to work, I'm fascinated........
