2 v/s 3 side windows on Model A
I was told by a person tonight that if an A model has 3 side windows (like mine does) instead of 2, that it was considered a luxuary car in it's day. Is this true, or is there another reason for the difference in number of windows?

Luxury car? Nope. Just one of the many body styles that Henry offered. He was trying to please a large cross section of car buyers.

First thing is...............whoever that person is, don't listen to them about old cars again. Ricers are probably more their speed.
Model A 4 door sedans like your's are the most common 4 door style. Ford did have a version available that had the quarter windows blanked out, made by Briggs if I remember correctly, IT was actually the rare version. And nobody in their right mind would consider ANY model A a luxury car....................except for the person who couldn't afford any car at all.
Here's a link to a photo gallery that shows most of the body styles with model numbers (the 60, 160, 170 were the 2w type)
http://www.gwcmodela.com/bodyphotos.htm
It also shows three "Town Cars", so I suppose those could be considered "luxury" cars.....................for real wannabes.Last edited by Bob Parmenter; 08-14-2004 at 08:32 AM.

Man, I must've been around too long. First, only coupes were cool. No serious gearhead would be caught in a sedan. Then 2-door sedans joined the cool crowd. Now, I'm thinkin' that 4-door sedans are awesome.

Just jogging my memory, I seem to recall that my '31 Fordor back in my high school days actually had a roll type window shade that could be pulled down over the rear window. There are several ways of looking at that. On the one hand single guys or newly wed couples would favor coupes or roadsters while larger families would want Fordors or Tudors, just as today. Reminds me of the story about the guy who married his sweetheart who helped him with his Corvette and then one day she told him "Honey, we need a station wagon for the baby's playpen!" Then it usually takes about 25 years before the guy can get a sports car again, but that is life! Youther, my wheels came from Early Wheels yesterday and thank goodness the 14x6 front rims easily clear the brake caliphers and the rear 15x7 should fit as either 235 or 245 widths as you sent. Thanks.

Don, No problem at all. Post or e-mail some pics when you get em mounted.
