You all know if that Chevy has a Turboglide and not a powerglide it doesn't have low gear on the selector. It has GRADE RETARD which is only used on steep grades to slow down.
If you start out in Grade Retard and shift to drive it will squeal the wheels when it shifts for a few times and then the trans will scatter. I've done it and seen it done many times. Lots of luck keeping it original after that. I haven't even seen rebuild parts for a Turbo Glide in years.Duane S
