My brother had a 72 and 74 Grand Prix and it was a cool car inside and out."Now bring me those cheese sandwich appetizers you talked me out of."

Studebakers are generally undervalued and part of the reason is Studebaker Nuts are notorious cheapskates! They don't like to part with a dollar if they can avoid it. (no offense meant here! I are one of them.) One of the great things about the Studebaker Coupes and Hawks is many of the pieces interchange from 1953 to 1962. A 1953 body will bolt right on to a '62 frame. They are also pretty light, so a little power goes a long ways. You definitely don't see a lot of them at the local show and shine either. Suprisingly there are a lot of parts still available and they are great platforms to adapt modern components to. I have a 1953 Coupe and people just won't believe it is over 50 years old. Too low and sleek! Not a shoe box like others from that era.
As for the size of the Grand Prix, it is similar to the Monte Carlo and Buick Riviera. They have a looong hood but the rest of the car is comparable to a Chevelle.
Happy Hunting!
PatOf course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong!

i AM going to get a car and i'm asking your opinion on cars to see if they are more of a headache than a car. I have plenty of friends and don't need to be here for conversation.

I didn't mean to be rude, its just that I don't think from what everyone else is saying that getting a 442 in the price range i'm looking at, just won't work. I appreciate you taking out the time and helping me out. I just want to make sure that whatever car I get is going to be something I REALLY want and will enjoy

i bought my 70 cutlass for about 3,000 in good condition (no major work) I have since put 9,000 into it. just to put the total $$ into perspective. i did all of the work on the car myself with the exception of the exhaut and alignment, so if you figure all the labor into the mix how fast it adds up. my car is a cutlass s with some w-30 option add ons the car is built the way me and my father wanted it after all that is the point. my advice would be to look at certain cars you like and research parts prices and availability so when you go look at a car you have a good idea what yer gonna spend. as for the car to look for its what ever you like, i'm partial to all gm musle cars. hope this helpscraftsman try to turn of the voices in there head. artists listen to them

my mother drove a smallblock powered '68 for 20 years. She got a lot of looks. I would love to see someone make a show car out of one!

thanks for the advice. I will shortly have to narrow it down and do the research you suggested. The thing is that I don't have a license right now ( speeding ). I have quite some time til I get my license back. I was hoping to get a car and work on it and get it ready for when I get my license back.

Oh, BTW, if you can get your hands on a Rebel Machine, Grab it! Or point me towards it. These are mean looking cars with 360+ AMC V8s under the hood. And they are going up in value. As for your prior question, Yes, Cutlasses and 442s do share the same body. Good luck on your car, and always feel free to ask.Right engine, Wrong Wheels

thank you. I think I'm going to try and find an AMX, even if it means going over my current budget

I think it's waaaay over what you said you want to spend for a car. If you're going to lay down that kind of cash it you may as well get a car that's fast. AMC=Almost (a) Muscle Car.
How about doing an off-the-wall project like a Kaiser Henry "J" , a Hudson pickup or a '70s era Dodge colt. Those would be real head turners.
