I bought one of those starter changeover adapters from J.C.Whitney for my first rod in 64. I don't remember if there was a brand name on it. I do remember paying $35 for it. I put a 56 Olds engine in a 40 Ford pickup. I also got the adapter plate for the old Ford transmission and a pilot shaft bushing. I had to trim about an inch off the snout on the starter for flywheel clearance. I went through a few starters but always used the same snout. I used up about three transmissions a year. I could take the innards from a sideloader and put them into my floor shifter in about an hour on the coffee table. I can smell the gear oil just thinking about it." Im gone'
