Early olds V8 adaption parts
In the past I have seen mount kits and parts to mount the starter on the pass side of the motor for the early olds V8 motors, does anyone know who made them and if the companies are still in business. I am planning on making a rat rod using a rebuilt 56 olds motor I have and would like to find some of the old adaption parts for those motors if possible,I am planning on installing the motor in a 42 to 48 GM product or what ever else brand of 40s car I can find cheap. I bought one of those starter changeover adapters from J.C.Whitney for my first rod in 64. I don't remember if there was a brand name on it. I do remember paying $35 for it. I put a 56 Olds engine in a 40 Ford pickup. I also got the adapter plate for the old Ford transmission and a pilot shaft bushing. I had to trim about an inch off the snout on the starter for flywheel clearance. I went through a few starters but always used the same snout. I used up about three transmissions a year. I could take the innards from a sideloader and put them into my floor shifter in about an hour on the coffee table. I can smell the gear oil just thinking about it." Im gone'

A couple of additional ideas for you.
Joe Mondello http://www.mondello.com knows more about Oldsmobile engines than anyone at GM. If he does not have what you want he may know where you can get it.
Wilcap http://www.wilcap.com makes a lot of engine adaptors. They do not list one for early Oldsmobile engines but they may be able to make what you need.
Finally, you may get a positive response by posting on one of the dedicated Oldsmobile boards like http://www.442.com or http://www.network54.com/Forum/144340 .Last edited by Bib_Overalls; 09-13-2004 at 10:20 PM.
