What do you guys think about this cars price? Is this what they normally go for? Any feedback/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

From The pictures , the car looks pretty good . $8500.00 is a fair price If the car is as good as it looks.

Take the following into consideration:

1 - What do you want to do to it ...
A - Hot Rod.
B - Rat Rod
C - Full Restoration
D - Street rod etc...

2 - How much do you want to spend
3- What can you afford
4 - What can you do yourself.
5 - What contacts do you have for things you cant
do on your own ( eg. Bodywork/ Suspension...)

6 - Beprepared for surprises ( Rust and Rot all of a sudden
show up when you least expect it )

7 - How is the interior and what type of interior do you want in it.
See what is needed to get the look and features you want

8 - BRING A KNOWLEDGABLE PERSON WITH YOU
As much as you know , someone always knows something you
don't .
Also when someone isn't as interested in the purchase as much
as you , that person is sometimes better at finding faults in the
car that might get by you at that time because you ar efired up
to get the car.

1. Rat Rod/Semi-Full Restoration..Not sure yet...I just dont want it to break down.
2. Haven't set a budget yet...Maybe no more than 15-20K

4. I have never worked on cars..Thats why I'm kind of interested in this car as I would like to work on it myself to learn.
5. I have some people that could help me with all the body work etc.
6. The owner that it had minor unoticable rust on the roof
7. The interior is so-so...I would like it to be white so I would have to re-do the entire enterior

A few more things:

Engine was rebuilt 2 years ago - The speedometer dosen't work so how many miles are on the rebuilt engine is unknown. Carpet was put in about 6 months ago. Tires are 2 years old.

With all of this in mind do you still think that the car is worth the 8.5K? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also how much would the front and rear air bags run me?

I will go with Tech on this one, I hate repairing someone else's mistakes. Too many hidden surprises under someone else's primer............ It is much easier to repair it right the first time then cut out someone else's hack job.

i agree with dave and tech , i hate to buy a primered car , way to easy to hide problems .

I will offer an alternate opinion from Tech, Dave and Kenny. In as much as they are all well skilled and experienced, their position of wanting to start fresh is understandable. You on the other hand have said that you do not have a lot of skills (yet).

Looking at the pictures it is hard to tell if it is primer or that is intended as the finished product. There are a lot of people who are leaving them that way right now.

If you really like the car, find a good pro who does custom body work and fabrication. Pay him an hours labor to thoroughly go over the car and evaluate the work that has been done and point out what else would need to be done. You should be able to do that for $75-100. That is cheap compared finding out bad news later.

Buying a partially complete project can sometimes be a less expensive way to get into a hot rod. We all know that you seldom will be able to recover the cost of parts and labor that we invest in our cars. I think the key is not going in blind and understanding what is left to be done.

Yeah, what Pat said too. Would be a real good plan, well worth the money.

yeah there right my uncle just bouht a 1971 short step side that was supposed to of been restored with primer and a rebuilt engine that uses a quart of oil every time u drive it it seems like and they didnt tighten any thing up on it. plus full of bondo not much but still got its fair share.

While im not a big fan of custom, I do like that buick. It done fairly subtle and has the look to it.

I see you live in LA and maybe looking for something kind of local. I live in southeastern Indiana and I know where there is a 1950-52 Buick ( I don't remember the exact year but it is a early 50's. It is a 2-door, straight 8, portholes in the side, and in real decent shape. From what I remember on the asking price, it was pennies on the dollar........cheap.
