1954 olds 88 2dr swap info?
I know I'm gonna catch it , but I want to put a modern v8 into my 54 88, sbc or later olds 400-455 w a 350 or 400 turbo.Original motor /trans is missing, But otherwise a complete solid car, Just plain not willing to pay the current going prices for gennie olds stuff , I want this car running now, not in a year or two when I can gather up all the rebuild/old hot rod stuff, besides the fact that I know sbc 's and do not old Olds motors/transmissions.Any swap kits out there ? maybe the old Hurst setups still avail.? are these chassis simular to the same 55-7 era chevy's? the car is not here yet.took it on a trade.Last edited by gasserfreak; 10-17-2004 at 10:29 AM.

Well, it will take some time but the easiest and fastest way is to get some junker Chevy car with a SBC in it and remove the engine, trans, motor and trans mounts, cut out all the old mounts out and replace with all Chevy mounts aquired from donar, drop engine and trans in as a unit, if the rear end is a torque tube setup, it will need changed, the rear end from the donar car will work as long as it's got the right measurement from backing plate to backing plate, if it's narrower, you can tub the rear tires ( rin wider 1's to compensate ), if it's wider you'll have to take it somewhere to get it narrowed or find a rear end with the correct measurements, get a driveshaft made to exzact length. If it's open end rear end, you don't need to replace the rear end, just get the new driveshaft. You will also have to rewire the car using a painless kit or such or, you could adapt the original 6 volt generator onto a custom mount to the engine and put the battery for that in the trunk, this will run all electrical systems other than the motor, the motor will have an alternator and a 12 volt system would be run indipendently for the engine electrical, the car would actully have 2 electrical systems and a toggle switch or 3 pos key switch would be needed to turn on the 6 volt system for lights, raido, blower fans and other things. a Points distributor would be easiest for engine wiring. You don't know what you've got til it's gone

Thanks I'll give em a call , I was wondering if any of the rod shops today make a kit for these swaps , or maybe a hurst setup , but most of those use the gennie trans ,which are hard to find good and very expensive to rebuild IF you can find parts.a later olds motor/trans or SBC/trans is much more to my liking , as for the buy a car and swap all of it , well, thats good if you have a working machine/welding shop , but some of us don't , done the hand built thing b4 and I don't want to again if i can get away from it.Rather let someone else get the headaches, lol,

I have a rebuilt 56 olds motor and a hydro trans that I am going to sell,it only needs a couple of parts to complete and the price will be right. Olds chassis are alot different then 55-7 chevys.
