    Unhappy Good project?

this is the first project rod that i am attempting. My parents gave me their old 46' Studebaker pickup. The body is immaculant!! Would a Studebaker truck work out to be a nice hot rod? What frame would be best to mount the body on?!!!! Someone please give me some suggestions!!

Well, an S10 frame is a good frame to use, yes it would be a good hotrod, studebakers are desirable as hotrods.

this might be a stupid question but kinda curious though if the boby is immaculant the chances are the frame would be in good shape why change with all the after market part out there the frame you have would make a perfect one for a 46 study hotrod . and if you ever want to go bask to the original it all there
drive it like ya stole it

That is somthing I wondered too unless, he wanted to keep the original frame stock inside a barn or such so when if he wanted to change back, he'd just have to change the frame out well, that and the gauges, colum and pedals and linkage.

    good project?

i dont have the frame or engine or anything else. Just the cab, the bed, fenders, and everything else that belongs to the body.. My dad attempted to restore it about 10 years ago and it never went back together.. i guess it might be a good thing huh?

hes not a fan for the truck, he gave it to me because he wasnt going to do anything with it. hes not into the hot rod scene. he didnt have the engine when he got the truck and he planned on changing the frame from stock we he decided to "try" and restore it. What a waste huh?

Studes are really sweet. I love those trucks too. I would get it. And yes a lot of people use S10 frames. Check out some 89-90's frames. Get some pics of this truck if you can and post it up on here.

If you can find you a complete S10 then use the engine out of it for a while, use the seats, use everything you can basically and even the bed if you wanted to if the stude bed is no good. Then later when you have more time and all then use a 350 Chevy and a 350 tranny. All depends how much money you have to spend on it and all.

    Wink good project?

yeah that sounds like a good plan. I have some money save up, the body was a freebie, so i just need to get it together and start up on this. My dad is a mechanic, but he prefers german cars and every othe european. Hes a big foriegner. he doesnt like to get involved in anything with anything domestic. Im just the opposite. Thank you all for the info, you have helped me out a lot and made my vison a lot clearer. If you guys have any other tips or advise please feel free to email me at tvrsmx@aol.com.. Any info is well appreciated!!!!
