i beleive that the traditional hot rod and street rods and muscle cars will be alive for a long time. there are more and more suppliers remanufacturing parts for the popular cars. as long as the interest is there people will always support the hobby. as for the import scene, they are hotrodders tuners craftsman whatever term suits you. i am not personally into the scene, but you cannot deny the skill and craftsmanship of the ones building truely inovative cars. after all they are doing the same thing we are just on a different platform, remember it is about respect between automotive enthusiasts. know matter how old you are you never know it all.craftsman try to turn of the voices in there head. artists listen to them

"The future of hot rodding" by racerx
Boy, I tell you, this sure has turned into a battle of wits, quips and twits. I can see that we have all agreed that the future of hot rodding lies in the hands of the young. And as stated once or twice before it has a lot to do with how you were raised. I was raised around cars my whole life, going to the Detroit Autorama and Auto shows for as long as I can remember. It was a family tradition. It wasn't necessarily hot rod based just cars in general.
Kids or teens, more importantly, get into what is considered the latest fad and driven by what the next kid is doing. So if they are all into "ricers" and most importantly, where the girls are, that is what they will flock to. Granted, if they are brought up in a household where they went to car and hot rod shows or a parent was into the hobby they will have a keen interest in the classics as well as what's popular. We all know that is true since we have all be there. Also, we have to consider what role the media plays in the scheme of things. "Pimp my ride", "Fast and Furious", etc. And lets face it, the media and peers have more influence during those years than anything a parent can muster.
On a personal level I'll give you my take on personalities I have encountered at car shows. The most noticable issues I have are with people who have a hate for other manufactures, brands and mods. If you don't like that Chevy or Mopar or Ford or radical modification keep your comments to yourself. I hate when people look at a car and as they walk-a-way make an audible sarcastic comment. Also, and this is for the ricer crowd, turn your f***ing stereos off or down because we didn't come there to listen to your Sniff doggy doo, Public Enima or M&M. If you want to play it, park your a$$ in the back lot. And another thing, have respect for other peoples cars. DO NOT LEAN ON THEM. Read the car show guide to Etiquette . If I see another, stay with me folks because this is another comment geared towards a ricer, saggy ass, sideways hat wearing person leaning on my car, I will kill you! I'm not really a ricer bashing person, it just happens that those two incidences happen to involve ricer folk. I look at everything when I go and even if I don't care for a particular "vehicle" personally, if it has something that is cool, I'll let the person know. Other than that I'd say 99% of the people I have met and talked to have been fantastic!
I tell you, my greatest concern involving the future of this great American past time is the cost at which they are selling for and I blame in great apart to the Barrett-Jackson auction. when I see cars there that you would normally, up till now, see selling at a car show or in the paper selling for $70- $100+ thousand I shake my head in disbelief. Millionairs and celebrity car builders are killing us. It really drives me made when I see one of these guys purchasing one to stick in his fancy 8 car garage with leather sofas and a bar in it just so he can show off to his friends. God only knows what he'd do if he got some oil on his Italian made "wing tips" our under his manicured finger nails. I mean heck, I saw a 1967 440 Plymouth GTX sell for $89,000 on the block. I don't care what you say, I have been a fan of these cars for a long time and follow them pretty well and know they are not going for $89,000. That being said, 1 month earlier I saw a completely restored 67 440 GTX selling on the internet for $35,000. Guess what happened the next time I looked? That same GTX that hadn't sold in a months time at $35,000 was now $54,000. And guess what happen? Two weeks later it was gone. So the moral of that story is, people with more money than brains are killing it for those of us who don't have open check books.
By the way CSF, much like those arogant bastards you hate so much for acting holier-than-thou and talking down to others. You might want to look in the mirror or better yet preview your responses before submitting because you layed down the same crap on FMX. And I quote: "...you are no way on the same playin level as i am....so i would suggest, that you read my posts, but DO NOT TRY TO INSITE OR ENCOURAGE a response on something you obviousley don't understand...
I love older cars. I love the uniquness about them, I love the fact that from year to year in some instances a particular car has a totally unique design, shape and appeal. 55, 56, 57 Chevy for instance. Similar in some aspects, yet different and unique in many others. I love what I love and you love what you love, lets agree to disagree but appreciate the others opinion... even just a little bit. I feel that the era in which these cars were built (50's, 60's) have a certain appeal which feeds my interest as well.
I can't wait for the time my son will understand and appreciate dad's interest in hot rods and muscle cars and maybe gain his own interest. When we can talk cars, go to shows to hang and bond, tinker with the Charger and someday, God willing I still have it, he turns the key himself for the first time and pulls out of the driveway. Ok, so I'll be as nervous as hell, but a proud moment nonetheless.
So where is the future of hot rodding headed? I'll let you know in about 10 years"Now bring me those cheese sandwich appetizers you talked me out of."

racerxjj67, that was a PERFECT explenation. That sums it up basically right there. I like how you said the thing about the radios being way up and all. We don't even have to continue this thread anymore. haha. I know what you mean about having respect for the ricers but in a way also don't when they don't have respect. And samething how you said when someone see's a car and you don't like it, keep your comments to yourself. My dad is bad about that. My dad is REALLY negative and ONLY points out the bad things he see's in cars or anything and it bugs the hell outta me. I tell him who cares because if that guy like "white letters" on the outside of his tires then that's what he likes, he won't change a damn thing because you don't like it. He always complains about white letters and all and I just tell him what I just said or say "do you have one?" and It ends it right there. Kids at school always bag on eachothers cars like if you have a Chevy they said Ford is better or vise versa. I really don't care. I like some Fords but prefer Chevy, I don't start crap and bag on a Ford. Yeah I might mess around and say oh look at that crappy Ford and then laugh but people know I am messing when I do that. Today at school a kid was saying how he is getting or has some Mustang (this is the same kid that I said brags and all) and he was of course bragging about it and I said who care's what he has and what color it is and then he told me that it will smoke a Chevy. I didn't say nothing like Ford sucks, etc but I simply said, it doesn't matter what brand you have, only matters if you like your car or not and how much work you put into it and the faster the engine the faster the car not the different brand will make it faster. Who care's anyways, you see Mustangs all over the place, nothing special to me. But yeah back on topic... Sorry, had to get it out.www.streamlineautocare.com

I'm 22 years old from chicago and have been around hot rods street rods rat rods customs whatever you want to call kick a$$ old cars all of my life. Ill Tell you my story into hot rodding and my take on my generation continuing the american joy of rodding. I have been working swapmeets since i was 11 years old we go to around 27 shows a year so i have seen a hot rod or 2. I was raised on them along with hendrix deep purple the doors and others. My dad has had a 32 cabriolet project for around 35 years. Within the last year we have been modifying the frame boxing it making motor mounts headers and everything else in between. THeir is a lot of inbetween when your puttin a blown 421 into a 32 cause as u all know nobody makes anything that fits. Before this time i was totally disintrested with hot rods because going to around 50 events a year and talking with people about them and never working on one pissed me off! SO my dad i my 15 yo brother my dads friend chuck decided to get off our a$$'s and make my dads long time dream become a reality. In doing so my brother and i learned how to tig weld use a lath mig weld bend stuff into place do body work and make parts fit and work together. Now at the same time we were doing this a show called AMerican Chopper was coming out. And it just reinforced how cool working with your hands and making somthing you can be proud of is. SO i began to look into building a hot rod of my own. Problem 1 money, I go to college ok problem 2 a glass 32 costs 5,000 for a cheap 1 and $3500 for suspension and frame I dont have that cash so i looked around and found a 26 rust free t coupe body online in california for $750 bucks score. When my dads car nuts friends heard one kid out of the entire old car club wanted to build his own the next day i had a 302 and a complete 289 engine waiting to be picked up for free. Then chuck gave me a trans an 8 in ford rear and my dad who had been pileing up parts for 30 years decided if he was gonna build his car he'd do it right once and for all and he got new billet everything. So now i Have old drilled i beams chooped 32 grill shells and a mountain of other old rod parts. I'm putting together a choped chaneld 26 low buck and i dont know how you all want to classify it but it will be a sweet ride. My 15 yo brother wants an A pickup and all we talk about is street rods now.
I think the major problem for a lot of guys in my generation besided funding is that if you want to go to college they tell you dont take shop class in high school and even if you did they dont have auto shop. Not that you learn a lot their but we learned more in knowing what you could do with a tourch a lath and every other garage tool I wish this was encouraged in school today and its not.
I have to give thanks to chuck and my dad and all of his buddies that are giving me and my little bro a hand in hot roding and showing us how to do so many basic things that u have to know in order to build a rod
My advice to all you older starters and followers of rodding is to take a kid to the nationals have him help you on your project let him do some welding on scraps or whatever get the younger guys envolved. I cant say this enough you guys are the only ones who can pass on the knowledge to us. and as our only source for hands on hot rodding pass on your knowledge and street rods of all types will be here to stay
Thats more than my 2 cents worth but i thought you might like to hear from the younger generation

Funny how things get misinterpreted. Lessoned learned. Now we can keep this about cars and hot rodding.
Ok every one, I'm done. This thread suffered and went downhill in a hurry and I'm sorry if I contributed to the decline. I won't do it again. I'll keep it short and sweet from now on."Now bring me those cheese sandwich appetizers you talked me out of."
