F/S '74 Mercedes 450 SEL
Well, I think I need to get rid of this car. Actually I know I do. Let me tell you about it. It is a white Mercedes 450 SEL. It is a pre-cat car, so it doesn't have to worry with that problem, nor needing it removed. It has 81,000+ miles on it now... all original. It came with a fuel injected gas V8. 4.5 liter. All of the plastic lenses are still intact. The body is beautiful. Does have a little bit of rust in the rockers.... not very much at all. Has a couple of spots of skin cancer where it got scratched. The interior is past the point of needing TLC.... It needs the dump. It ought to have a new interior in it. I don't think a new wiring harness would hurt it either, and might actually be a necessity. It may well cure some of the weird little electrical phantoms around on it. The car got left to set for a while by a guy who wasn't really into fixing things, so after I got it, it was green. I put a lot of work into making this car look good. It still has every piece of trim still there on it. All the hub caps, all the chrome, all the rubber. I got the engine pretty much back running, providid you kept pouring gas down its goozle. I tracked down the problem as the fuel pump, so I ripped it out and rebuilt it. It is setting with a new filter and connector hoses in the garage waiting for a dry day to install it again. The car has some interesting stuff on it, like an IRS that might could be used on a rod if someone was so inclined to distroy this piece of vintage autombilia.
What this car needs for sure:
new interior
body work on the rocker panels
a good tune up
probably a new wiring harness
someone who has time and money to spend on it
a good going over by someone who works on Mercedes products
a new windshield (old one is cracked pretty bad)
another good cleaning (I'll throw this one in if someone buys it)
This car basically could use a restoration. It would be an ideal light restoration project. Extremely low miles, good mechanical and structrual shape. It seems to me like someone looking for a family/ father son project would be a perfect home for this car. It is just too nice of a car to let see go to the crusher, which is where it might be headed if I can't get it gone. If no one wants to restore it, there are plenty of good parts that would be nice in a rod if someone felt so inclined to make one like that.
I really need to get $1500 out of it. Oh, and it also has a CLEAR TITLE that I can get signed over immediately upon sale. The car is located in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, ~25 miles from Knoxville, and easily accessed from I-40. Someone please buy this nice car.

The previous owner got the idea to turn the back seat into a couch.... he removed the vinyl from the seat foam, but gave up after a little effort. He just removed the hog rings, so reinstallation shouldn't be a lot of effort, if it is desired. It really looks worse than it is.

The seats need replacing. Also the stereo. The previous owner took it out when he parked it. I also believe he took out the front seat belts, but I will have to check to make sure.Last edited by qat727; 01-08-2005 at 12:35 AM.

There is one little piece of chrome on the grille that fell off.... but I picked it up and threw it in the car.... all the chrome is there. Plus it has those funky headlights... 4 all the same. I haven't seen many like that.

As much scrubbing on the deck lid as I did it still didn't go shiny... a good wet sanding might do the trick, or just a new paint job.

I thought my mercedes was too nice to let go to the crusher, that's actully why I bought it, my dad bought it for parts for his '83 4spd car, he was going to strip it of parts and then have it crushed, when we went to pick it up, the body wasn't too bad, the jack holes had the usual rust that most do ( my dad's dosn't ) but, it ran good, did smoke a lot though. I bought the car just after my dad removed the head as the 1 on his car cracked, my intentions were to drop a Chevy 350 with an automatic in it, the complications of the build built up and up and now, the car is headed for the crusher some time in the spring.

I want to see it go to a good home. It is too nice of a car to just get crushed. But I guess if no one will buy it, it probably will. Either that, or get moved to the black hole from which none of my cars return, Wartburg...... *shivers*..... come on, someone buy this thing. I might be able to cut somebody a good deal on it if I knew there was a chance of it leaving. It has a clean title and low miles.... what more could you want?---- that's rhetorical..
