    '49 'glass Merc

Couple too many cars around here. This Merc is on a Crown Vic chassis, 302 with a four barrell, power steering, power brakes and lots of other goodies. It will all be in primer this week. Will still need interior and paint. $16,500, or will finish it to the new owners specs if the money is right.....

Hmmm. Can't seem to get pics too load. If you're interested there are some pics of it in my gallery. The red Merc, not the yellow one!!!! It's the one in my gallery in primer with the red gel coat deck lid......

I also have a "race weight" glass body..... Now with a tube chassis and a bunch of cubes would make a very unique nostalgia type drag racer...... Hopefully someone will buy it so that I'm not "forced" to build it myself!!!!!

Today the conversation went to turning one of these 'glass bodied Mercs into a removable hardtop.... Any thoughts on it? Wouldn't be all that tough to do, wonder how it would look???? Or would it be better with bows and a soft top?

Na, you got to find some '58 Ford hard top convertible parts and put it togther as a convertible hard top. nothing like bringing back a thing of the past. I see VW has a new 2008 model I think that has a convertible hard top option, tho it needs a seperate ECU just for the mechanism.

I don't want to build a Skyliner, I want to recoup some of the $$$$ I lost on the Merc project to date and get some quality bodies built!!!!! You don't even want to know what happened with the last glass shops that was building them!!!!

    Dave,

There's nothing, and I mean nothing that looks better than the old Merc with the top chopped . . . and still on the car. If I had room for another project, I'd take it off your hands just to keep the roof intact.

Not a problem, Jack. We still own the molds and I did all the frame and suspension work. I'll have one for you, top chopped and still installed, anytime you are ready. Oh yeah, been spending some time making the back window a bit more proportional in size to the slope and shape of the roof. I'll post you a pic when it is all back in primer.....
