Desoto Hemi Here I Need Help
PLEASE!!! Can someone tell me if there is a company that can build to order or has in stock or some one who has a 4 bbl. manifold for a 1952 276 DESOTO FIRE DOME-HEMI? ENGINE ID IS S16-44015. Any hemi experts out there? Can any of the early Dodge or Chrysler hemi after market 4bbl manifolds fit or be adapted/modified to fit a Desoto FIRE DOME?

Hot Heads runs a forum where you might ask if someone has one to sell; http://hothemiheads.com/forum/viewfo...c_status=sNYfR
HH doesn't list a 4 bbl manifold, and I'm pretty sure the other models won't fit.Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon

Brian, to my knowledge Chrysler didn't offer the earlier De Soto and Dodge hemi engines (pre '56) with four barrel carburetors.
In 1956 both makes got "RB" (raised block) engines that raised displacement to 341 and 315 inches respectively. That same year De Soto offered the high performance "Adventurer" and Dodge the "D-500" with single or dual four barrels, depending on how much performance a guy could stand.
Now, that hot poop probably won't do you much good because a '56 intake manifold, if by some miracle you could find and pay for one, wouldn't fit your 1952. Not without applying LOTS of creativity, anyway. At least I don't think it would fit. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong.
And I don't know whether the after-market boys ever made what you need, either. Some guys made log type intakes for multiple two-barrels (for time trial and drag racing applications) but I doubt that's what you're looking for.
I guess I'm saying that I can't offer you encouragement. Sorry.

I guess I'm going to have use that as last resort. Thanks for the info and input guys.

Here is, I hope, a picture of a "log" manifold in case you havent seen one.
The home made ones I have seen were very much like your concept (flanges, rubber hoses, etc.) and worked okay for competition purposes. The one we used on our Modified Roadster was store-bought and carried eight Stromberg 97 carburetors. I guess a guy could fabricate one for three two-barrels if he wanted to but I'd say the flow characteristics wouldn't be too good.
Some early sixties high performance cars had what was called (I think) a "progressive linkage" setup that opened the center carburetor for slow speeds and progressively fed in the other two as the "loud pedal" was pressed. I think Pontiac and Ford had this type of linkage, but I'll defer to Techinspector 1 in case I'm off-base with that comment.
Which ever way you go, good luck!

THANK YOU so much Big Tracks. i like that set up and it doesn't look so complicated to make either if i can't find one. I did find out from the folks at Eelco a couple days ago they might build a manifold for low deck early hemis.Again thanks for the info and the pic.

If your into fabrication (and can braze pretty well) you can take a shot at modifying your current manifold into a tri-power set up like the one below.

That won't be necessary Jim, everything I've seen you write so far is on the money.PLANET EARTH, INSANE ASYLUM FOR THE UNIVERSE.
