413 question
I have access to a 413 motor from a 1964 Imperial. Can anyone give me some quick info on this motor? What may one in running conditon be worth, he wants $500? I have been searching (and will continue to) the forum for info. Is this a "hemi" motor. I need a quick lesson on the mid sixties mopar big block engines...
thx

OOPS!
I didn't answer your question.
No, it isn't a hemi, it's a "wedge", but that doesn't mean it's not a real good engine. I can't comment on whether $500 is a fair price. That would depend on a bunch of "ifs".

I suggest calling several of the automotive recycling centers in the closest large city to you and asking what they would get for one. The 413 is in the same engine family as the wedge 426 and 440, all of them being classified as "RB" or raised block engines. I believe all had the same stroke at 3.75", with the difference being the bore size.PLANET EARTH, INSANE ASYLUM FOR THE UNIVERSE.

thx guys, actually I found this engine on eBay. I saw a plymouth car for sale on ebay and he mentioned he had an additional engine for sale. After I posted this, I found tons more info here , this forum rocks! I think I am going to pass on this one though. I thought the 413 was an earlier hemi and not a wedge. I thought it would be a good engine for a retro rod I am attempting to get together. Plug wires coming out the valve covers gets me excited...

My Mom had a 413 in her 64 300 K series. It was stong enough to get that tank down the 1/4 mile in 14 seconds and 89mph (Wed. nite at Lions Drag Strip, run what you brung) iirc.Last edited by 42K3; 09-28-2006 at 10:46 AM.

The 413 wedge engine in the 64 Imperial had a 3.75 stroke with 340 hp and 370 lbs of torque. Compression was 10.1:1. A friend of mine had one in a big Dodge and that sucker would haul. Great engines. Parts could be difficult but PAW should have them or even Egge Machine. It should make a nice additon to any traditional street rod.

I have to agree with mopar34, the "tall" block wedge is a great motor. A couple of things make them not popular; weight and cost to build are the first to come to mind. They don't need to turn high RPM's and can last forever being flogged a lot. A racer years ago bought an old funny car and dropped in a 440 and ruled his et class and never turned it over 5600 rpm and ran for 4 years with out any major work.

Good luck with the project.
