I would suggest to anyone storing a car over some time that you start it up every few weeks. Much better than just letting it sit there.

I guess some of us on here don't fully read the first post. He said it has a new rebuild not a formally running car. Spinning the motor with the plugs out or coil out to get the oil pressure up defeats the purpose of getting oil pressure up with out causing damage from friction without oil.
And pushing a manual trans car to do the same thing still causes friction before the oil pressure is up .
Bottom line is he should get the oil around BEFORE he cranks it.

....Thank you R Pope & Cape Cod Bob, I don't want to take any chances so I'll go the route of priming it. The motor cost me $20 G's so I need to be careful. It was a re-built 392 Hemi {year; 1957} but it was run before they shipped it out. Does this make sense though; Big Al said he ran the motor before he shipped it out but there was no gas smell what so ever in the carbs. I called him & asked him about this & he said that they run the motors until they run out of gas so hence, no smell. But wouldn't running a blown motor dry hurt it??? Thanks again everyone! Bill

Billsbird, you have $20,000 into this motor and you are willing to leave the start up to someone with limited experience ? Meaning you , of course. If I had that amount of money into the motor I would try to hire someone from a reputable rod shop to fire her up.
One mechanics days wage will be a lot less then a broke hemi. Just my opinion. Good luck.
And please lert us know how it goes.

I don't want to be rude or anything, but I was thinking the same thing. It's just not worth the risk of messing something up with such a big investment. If you could find someone to help run you through the proper startup, even a local member, then I'd go that route first. I'm soon to be in your shoes with my 460, but my investment is only 3-4 k and I'm still debating wether to do it myself or have a mechanic friend do the initial break in. No insults intended, just want to see a smile on your face in the video you WILL BE Posting and hear this baby rumble to life!
