small block questions
alright, I want to get the best proformance out of my duster but keep it somewhat practical and street legal. So with that in mind should I change to 340 or 360 heads? Bore out the 318 abit and make it a stroker? Im definatly switching over to a 4 barrel.
Im mostly just wondering what other people have done to get a street legal 12 second a body.
thanks James

thanks.
Now would I be able to just buy 360 heads cause it;s the same block or would I have to start from a full 360? Im new to the car side of things. Usally the biggest thing Id bore out is and 86 ci V twin and give it a 95 kit lol.
and after that what rear end and transmition should I run?

changing the heads doesnt change the displacement. a 318 with 360 heads is still a 318.75 GMC C-15 factory 454, automatic, lowered

Drop in a big-block 440. A stock motor will put you in the 12's. Lots of swap kits available.

heads
Find a 91 or 92 Dakota with a 318 and grab the heads off that.
They are closed chamber to raise comp ratio and have the positive valve seals too. You can use ALL you stock valve train if you want. The valves are the same size as 360 's.
I have a set on MY 360 (yeah thats right) 318 heads on a 360..I beat my buddies Hemi pick-up with the old Dart. So you can judge from that. I don't know what the stock Hemi's do in the 1/4 mile, but, I don't need one.
I bought 9.5 Kieth Black pistons for stock heads but With the closed chamber Heads I think I am a little over 9.5 to 1.provoking someone does not teach them anything.

Youre going to be hard pressed to get 12s out of a 318 while keeping the car comfortable. check out this thread on basically the same idea: http://www.clubhotrod.com/forums/sho...threadid=1511173 Dodge Dart Swinger

You can get 12s or 13s out of a 318, especially in a Duster, you just need to have the right combo of intake, cam, heads, headers, gears, suspension and tires. But, the first thing you should know is that if you decide to go with a 360, you will be able to put ALOT more power out of that than any 318. The good thing is that the 318 and 360 are very similar, so what you could do is buy parts for your 318 that you can swap over if you decide to do a 360 down the road. I am in the process of doing just that to my 73 Swinger. I got a few things to pep up the 318 thats in it for now, but I am building a 360 into a 408 stroker. Some of the parts that I have for the 318 I can, and will use on the 408 when its time to get it in the car. Just some food for thought.Real Cars Don't Power The Front Wheels, They Lift Them...

a 904 is light and strong enough to hold power. people will say you need a 727 but ive run a 904 into the 10's consistantly with no problems for 4 years. 8 3/4 rear would be best but they are hard to come by these days for an a body. i did just see one for sale around detroit or somewhere with a 318 and 904 for $300. dont remember if it was this forum though.73 Dodge Dart Swinger
