Boy from Oz
Hey Guys,
I'm Chris from Sydney Australia,
Recently bought a 57 wagon 210 Beauville 9 passenger. I know there aren't many of these in Australia, but would anyone know if these are common in the U.S? I believe the number of these made in 1957 was around the 21,000. Anyone know if this is correct?
Anyway I enjoy this site and I'm glad to be a part of this hotrod community even though i have just joined.
Cheers,
Chris

G'Day Chris!
Nice to meet you! I've been to Australia a few times and absolutely loved it. Was just thinking the other day, that I should plan a vacation to Australia for about a week or so. The last couple of times I was there I noticed that American cars were popular over there. Are you required to convert them from left side steering column to right side? Always wondered about that...
Until I can make it over that way...keep a Fosters cold for me, mate!

American Cars In Oz
G'day Techinspector1 and Sgt Steve,
Sgt Steve glad you like Australia. Have you seen much of the country? been to Sydney?
In regards to the left hand drive / Right hand Drive. I recently imported a 1987 Corvette from Fl in the U.S. To be able to register the car in Australia to drive it, I had to get a conversion to right hand drive done on the car (Not cheap). The reason is if the car is less then 30 years old it must be converted to right hand drive.
My dad owns a 56 Chevy Belair 4 door Hardtop and he did the conversion on it because its not a huge job on the early model cars. Seen it was older then 30 years he could have driven it and kept it left hand drive. Late model cars left hand drive sell pretty cheap because it costs so much money to do a conversion on a late model car. (say a C5 corvette mirror conversion done well would cost around US$12,000 ) its expensive.
I am trying to work out what color to paint the 57 Wagon, Its so hard to decide.

Welcome to CHR, Chris. Thanks for the information on the right hand drive conversions, always wondered what the law had to say about US imports to Australia. Enjoy your time at CHR.Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Thanks for the Welcome
Thanks for the warm welcome guys.
Does anyone know where I could possibly get a new Fuel Tank for my 1957 chevy 210 Beauville 9 pass. ? The fuel tank for this car is different from that on the other sedans and wagons.
Any Ideas?
Thanks again for your assistance.

Chris,
No, never got the chance to visit Sydney. Visited Western Australia while in the Navy. (Perth, Fremantle) and also Hobart, Tazmania. I think I would like to visit Sydney next time...
Let's see...it's summer time for you right now correct?
I do want to go during the summer, so I may have to wait until next winter here.

I visited Perth several times during my Naval Career. Was there in the 70's. (yeah, I'm a geezer, hehehe). Love your country. People are friendly and the weather was nice. Hope to someday see it again. So anyway, welcome aboard CHR.Duane S
