Whats up all
New to these forums but it looks like a great place to talk cars. I'm 29 and have been playing with cars since I was 14. I've had my Cuda' since I was 17 and done 1 restoration with help from my dad and 1 hot rodification myself. Unfortunately I blew up the engine and trans on a nitrous pass in a drag race. Grenaded the 727 real good. When I tore it down there was all sorts of scoring and grooving on the inside of the case that pretty much said I destroyed it. Tore down the engine and found 3 cylinders with big FAT grooves in the cylinder walls from ring butting. Bummer. I guess I didnt gap the rings wide enough when I built the 360. So now its time to go with a BB 440. Just trying to decide on the heads right now. I'll post up pics later of the project. Talk to you guys here.

In 1978 I bought a '70 Cuda 440/6-Pak and 4-speed. I never really liked working on the carburetor setup, but it was a torque monster. Sounds like fun - post some pictures if you get a chance.Tim -

Welcome to the website. I've never owned a MoPar hotrod, but I've been up against plenty of them, 340s, 383s, 440s, no Hemis, Thank God for that!
Anyway, nitrous used to be found only at the Dentist's office, and I kinda think that's where it should still be. Me, I try to do it on high octane gasoline, high compression, big cam, and big gears in the punkin'. It's strictly 60s and early 70s stuff for me I guess. I was already a family man when the kids started putting laughing gas to their engines. A lot of them came to the same grief that you did, the flame got a little to hot in the combustion chamber. If you'd ever been in an analytical chemistry lab and seen someone using an AA (atomic adsorption spectrometer) with nitrous on the oxidizing flame, you wouldn't want that wicked red flame in your motor either. I swear, its ruby red with a bright blue fringe around the edges; pretty but very destructive. And that's exactly why they use it for AA; rips those metal molecules into their respective atoms in a flash.
Anyway, you don't need a lecture in chemistry or hotrodding. just want you to know you're free to shoot the breeze about your car(s) anytime you want.

Welcome to CHR. The only mopar I everhad was a "lit redwagon" 1978 and man am I sorry I ever got rid of that. cruising at 80 and listening to those side pipes, man were they sweet. Good luck with your project.Keep smiling, it only hurts when you think it does!

Thanks for all the responses fellas its good to be felt welcome in a new place. A lot of message boards that I go to you kind of have to prove your mettle before you get any respect.
Vurtok. I hear you on the destructive and powerful nature of the giggle gas but I have friends that have well over 1000+ passes on their engines that run the jug and they swear by it. Now i know a lot of people will say that running the bottle is cheating and if you cant make the power naturally or with a supercharger you dont really know what you're doing. I tend to disagree though as it takes a hell of a lot of tuning get that thing to make a perfect run. Besides... where else can you get 200 HP instantly at the push of a button With all that being said.... I'm probably going to stick to naturally aspirated on the 440 im building....... well maybe a little bit of nitrous wont hurt, say..... a 300 hp shot.

I'm thoroughly impressed by this sight so far. Cudaman is correct in saying it's often tough for a younger guy to get any respect in this obcession ( I mean, hobby).
I'm only 25, and just getting started, but I've been around the scene since I was 10. My Torino project is in its infancy, and the theme is most definately "budget" thus far. I'm having a kid from a nearby VoTech school paint it. Kind of a roll of the dice, but man what a savings in cost. Now I need to turn my attention to the drivetrain (390, C6), so I'll be looking forward to trying to find information here.
I also have a '51 Merc Coupe sitting in the shed that will be my real money pit sometime down the road, but I want the Torino to be a fun "driver" until then.
