Howdy everyone
Hey my name is Adam and im really new to all this car stuff, in fact I dont even own a car as of right now, but I decided I wanted to build myself a car id like and well here starts the learning curve. Im looking to build myself a 1968 Dodge Charger with a 540 Hemi in it, and since I know very little I figured id get myself onto some forums and try and learn what I can before diving in, and ill try not to ask to many noobish questions

My new Scoggin-Dickey catalog shows a 528 crate hemi for $14,999.95 and that's just the motor, no clutch/converter, transmission, rearend, suspension, etc., etc., etc.
How's your bank balance Adam??PLANET EARTH, INSANE ASYLUM FOR THE UNIVERSE.

As a retired Sergeant all I can say is tech has it right again.
For giggels I looked at 68 Chargers on E Bay, not quite as bad as I thought, but not cheap buys/builds either (I can remember when they went out the showroom floor at about $4000 NEW : )

Im single and most of that money will be going straight to savings...will take a year or 2 to save the money but since I wont be paying for rent and such I should be ok. Compared to the job I have right now ill be making more money. Just curious how hard would it be to find just the block for a 540 hemi

Ronny....
Saving all you can is an excellent plan. However, if you are going to be working for your uncle for a couple of years, I suggest that you dont buy any parts right now because things will be considerably different in two years.....just think, the 540 crate hemi wasnt available at all a couple of years ago!
When I got my first real job in 1969, they paid me $800 a month which is $9600 a year.....equivalent to $50,877 in todays money. We thought that we would have to stand on the corner and pass out twenties to get rid of that much money.....boy was I wrong.
Saving everything that you can for two years will reward you with a nice nest egg to buy that neat car in 2008....and it will happen faster than you think.....by then, there may be a 680 hemi crate motor!!!! Good luck
