Old Fart
47 yr old hot rodder ,started as an import tech for VW in 77,work on the german cars since then ,restored 2 old mercedes SL convertables and last winter restored a 67 Chevelle SS with a 383 LT1 and 4l60 ,daily driver ,well the wife had this 69 nova in the garage for about 20 yrs ,originally a 396 4spd SS ,somewhere along the line her EX put a 454 with a powerglide. Well I just started on it the motor is out ,thinkin about strokin it and putting a 4 spd back in it ,the trunk area is pretty hacked up ,I think her ex knew enough to be dangerous so I will be stripping her down and possible mini tub with a 4link and ford 9 in(I dont like unibody or leaf springs and blew my share of 10 bolts apart)just finished a frame off resto mod 67 Chevellewith 383 stroked LT1 and a 75 mb 450 SL (not a hot rod but a sweet old convertable}Now am restoring a 69 Nova SS

Welcome aboard. I think you will find you have many fellow enthusiasts here.
I grew up 90 miles west of Indy. Of course I was a resident of Indy every year, during Labor Day weekend!
The Nova sounds cool. We had a couple of those in Danville(Illinois), and even a 427 Nickey Nova.

When I used to come to Indy for the Nats', I always had a problem relating to the VW Gassers. They sounded like angry hornets. Still they would hike the front wheels in every gear, so I had to give them "points" for that.
You and I had better get used to the sound. The Tuners are coming, and when we are in the nursing home, they will be a solid part of the NHRA national events. Count on it!
The kids today are building what they have, just like we did, and NHRA will want their attendance, T-shirt sales, and their TVs (or IPODs) tuned to the coverage, so they will tailor the classes to attract them. Nothin' ever stays the same.
The good news is that the hobby will live on.

Hey there 75mbsl, I just wanted to give a shout out to a fellow hoosier. I live 40 miles from Indy, but drive there every day to work. Also to Hotrodpaint.....I lived in Tucson, AZ. for 7 years, I love that city and bought my first Model A there. Hey hotrodpaint remind me to tell you the story of my brakes going out on 22nd street down by the mcdonalds and reid park.Life is like a hotrod......it goes fast, so keep one foot close to the brake. a30coupe

well I just love razzin him but his Nissan 240sx is very fast ,he put a 6cyl with a turbo from a japan skyline as his senior project .This winter it is getting redone next to the Nova he has a Custom header with a huge turbo, custom intake ,and radiator ,saving his money for a limited slip rear end ,the car looks pretty stock so when people see it they think oh boy this kids been shoppin the walmart auto dept ,then he opens her up and thier jaws drop ,I am tempted to pay for dyno time just to see what he is putting down now and after its done,OH and just like us ,got his first speeding ticket the first night outjust finished a frame off resto mod 67 Chevellewith 383 stroked LT1 and a 75 mb 450 SL (not a hot rod but a sweet old convertable}Now am restoring a 69 Nova SS
