    New guy building 38 Chevy

I figured I better sign in. I have a 38 Chevy 2 dr Sedan project I'm working on that has eaten a lot of money and a lot of time, especially for a car that doesn't run yet. But it's been fun. I buy and sell stuff to fund this build since my wife frowns on me using any household income. I can't blame her for that. I am actually piecing together a 27 Ford roadster to sell (fiberglass body). Anyway, thanks for having me.

Welcome. Boy, all of this is foreign to us. None of us ever have more time or money in our cars than we thought we would have. And certainly, NONE of us ever have had to hide receipts from our wives.

Actually, you sound just like the rest of us. You are going to fit in real well.

I've told this story before. I don't mind cutting up any car to make a hot rod. But I bought a restored '38 Sedan like yours years ago, and the guy had spent so much time restoring it that I didn't have the heart to change it. The car was that straight. Now I wish I had it back, I don't think I would suffer the same pangs of guilt.

    Post some pix.

The guy I bought the car from had taken it all down and restored every nut and bolt and was ready to put it back together again and then he decided he wanted to make a hot rod out of it so he put a subframe in the frame he had and was about ready to put it all together when he finally got tired of it and went out and bought a running Model A instead. It took 7 years for me to talk him into selling it to me. He had the car in dry storage since 1974. Incidentially the year I was born. One of the main reasons I have kept it this long (2 years) is because it holds sentimental value for the family as the seller was a very close friend of my wife's family.

Thanks but that one was ALL old school. The sucside doors were the most fun I cut the jambs out os a 50 plymouth 4 dr in the winter in the snow with a hammer and chisel. I had a lot more time than money and I had a few misunderstandings with wife # 1 over the expensies.

    Building a '35 Chevy....never done this before

Hi all, Please understand I may not speak your language yet but I am willing to learn. I bought a 1935 Chevy standard 2 door sedan that has had the floor, wheel wells, partial firewall and doors replaced. The frame has been modified with a mustang front end and the rear axle has been shortened to 9" (?????)..still not sure where the 9 inches come from, I have been measuring everything in sight but can't find anything that measures 9 inches. I have a 327 350 HP 1968 engine with Auto transmission in it. I have taken it all apart and I am going to start with painting the frame. Can anyone suggest a good "How to build a hotrod" magazine/book to help with this project.. . I think I have attached a picture of my car the day I bought it. Thanks and you guys seem very friendly Dick Picture 044.jpg
