jumped off feet running
Hey guys. I am currently looking for a hot/rat-rod project. I got a 2000 jeep from my brother in laws boss for free! It's basically a frame with the whole drivetrain computer n all. well I plan on using this for a rat rod project. I just need a good rolling chassis. what kind? I have no idea where to start...but I am looking at this 50-54 buick 4-door thats sitting outside a house not too far from my house. Does this sound like a good idea? or am i getting in way too deep? I'll try to post some pics soon to show what I'm working with. oh yeah..it's got the chrysler v6 in it with auto 2wd

I don't know. That Jeep engine thing into the Buick Fordors has been done to death. For a change it would be nice to see the Buick stuffed into the Jeep.

Nah, I was just having some fun with ya. Couple of Coronas kind of made it seem like you and I could enjoy a little leg pulling.
But, if you are serious about this project, the answer is no, it would not be a good idea. The Buick weighs like 10 bazillion pounds (give or take) and the Jeep engine would never have enough power to move it around. Free is only good if you can use it.
My real advice is to buy the car, because they are pretty cool, and either fix up the stock straight 8 or swap in a 455 Buick or Olds or Caddy. That car needs torque to move it. Then part out the Jeep on Ebay and use the money to help finance the Buick project.

What's the originality of putting a Buick in a Jeep? They came from the factory with Buick motors.

When I first read his post I thought someone was just having a little fun with us, so I thought I would have some fun back. The question just seemed a lttle bogus to me.
But then, after he came back I thought maybe he was serious, so I gave him a serious answer. Now, after seeing his last reply I'm not so sure he was serious. If you were, I am sorry I doubted you, but still stand by my original answer..................this engine will never move a big old Buick.
If your boss gave you a free riding mower, would you put that engine into the Buick?
Some swaps just make no sense, regardless of how free or cheap we get the engine.

well i don't have the Buick, but i was just LOOKING for a good car to start with. The buick was the first car I saw driving home when I heard about getting the jeep. While the Buick stays on my mind, I am still LOOKING. I also found a 50's Ford tow truck. I havent got too serious about a car but am looking for something pre 1960.

When i first posted I got the year wrong on the jeep. Its actually a 2005. By most of your replys you guys act like i wanna throw in a honda engine and 20 stickers on a duece. Im new to this hotrod game, hell i dont even have a project yet. So please excuse me if i come off a lil ignorant.
on paper it looks like the 3.7 could pull the Buick around.
Heres the specs:

The JeepThe 3.7 produces 210 hp (157 kW) at 5,200 rpm and 235 lb-ft (319 Nm) at 4,000 rpm. It now has a revised cam profile and new valve lash adjusters to increase smoothness at idle, and a thick-wall composite manifold and revised air box and resonator to reduce noise.
I guess I fell in love with that 52 buick. If i dont buy the one down the road (LITERALLY), i know Im gonna get me one in the near future. I didnt know that buicks were being thrown into jeeps. Guess I'll be doing this ACK BASSWORDS. Anyways, once i start this I dont plan on taking it to shows, making money or as daily transportation. I just wanna cruise it when Im not cruising my 5.0 and take it to the cruise nights.Last edited by 5.0; 06-06-2006 at 02:05 AM.
