"The new guy"
Hey everyone,
I don't have a "classic" hot rod but more of a modern one. I own a 2002 ford lightning with a little bit of work. I'm trying to get my plans rolling soon of turning this more into an old time rat rod. Starting with chopping the top, redesigning the rear window, and of course the flat black paint. Who knows where this project will take me, but all the help along the way will be appreciated!

Welcome. Well, it's your truck, but not sure about the flat black. Why would you consider doing it to a 4 year old truck that is a classic sort of in it's own sense? Hate to be skeptical, but I kind of wondered if your post was just pulling our leg a little?
If it isn't, and you are serious, I guess you are trying to make it resemble what your interpretation of old skool is, but I think all you will end up with is a truck that was once really cool and is now pretty drab. I love the Lightning trucks, and think Ford really nailed it when it was developed, but you can chop the heck out of it and paint it flat, and all you will have is a truck that looks like a half finished project.
Maybe I'm out in left field, but certain cars just don't reinvent well. I guess the politically correct answer should be "it's your truck, so do whatever turns you on," but I have to give you my personal/ honest opinion.

I have to agree with Don. Fords don't trip my triger but that truck to me is cool just the way it is.Lower it and get some nice wheels. Drive it till it becomes an antquie then sell it.
