Hello All,

Was cruising the inernet and found your site.

I am a drag racer from Melbourne Australia. My husband and I both race a 1965 Ford Cortina with a 360 Mopar in it. Its a full chassis race car with air shifter, parachute, two speed glide finished off with Convo pros and Hoosier slicks.

I also work on a TV program called RODDER'S LIFE, I work in the sales, marketing, sponsorship area mainly, but I also interview other women in motorsport and also interview owners of rods when we go out and about to Rod runs etc. Our show highlight Hot rods in Australia and the characters in our Hot rod scene and of course, we love to highlight peoples beautiful Hot Rods too!

When I'm not working on Rodders Life or racing, I am the Victorian Co Ordinator of the Australian Womens Motorsport Network, organising Drag Racing Training days for women and encouraging girls to get involved in the car scene and motorsport scene in general.

Welcome to CHR, sounds like you have a very interesting life in Aussie!!!! What do you folks have that compares to our Bonneville for Land Speed Record racing? I have friends that have been to Australia sprint car racing, even visited Sydney on R&R back in the late 60's. Wonderful country....

Wow, a Ford with a 360 Mopar, gotta love that! I'm a Mopar freak from 'way back in the '60's. We put a "wide" 313 in a '57 Pontiac and blew off all the 283's for miles around.

Nice to meet ya! We have an organisation called the Dry Lakes Racers Association their website is www.dlra.org.au and I hear that there are some salt lake racing on next month at Lake Gairdner, Our show will be going there to get some footage and interview the racers as well.

Have you raced the salt lakes before in the U S or do you just like to spectate?

What cars do you currently have dave?

Our combination is a bit different, but it goes hard and we also run her on methanol which helps the torque, I am a traditional Holden girl from a holden family, but I really love the Mopar and the cortina, there are'nt many of these on our race tracks and I am biased when i say it looks good too! Ha ha.
I have really come to love the Mopar engine, they are way cool and very different to say a ford, chev or Holden engine!

Been to Bonneville as a spectator, just now starting on a car to take their. It's a highly modified '67 Ranchero, (pics in my gallery) and still at least a year and a half from done. Lots of other project that PAY money instead of COST money!!!!!!!

Was just looking through your gallery Dave, Love the Merc! And it is painted in a top colour, I love yellow!

I am very partial to Mercury's, I would like a 46 to 48 Merc myself,maybe one day?

What engine have you put in it?

That one had a big block Chevy and a 4L60E transmission.

Hi Mrs Mopar! Welcome aboard. Sounds like your doing great work there down under raising awareness and bringing more folks into the sport. Good for you!

I understand there is quite a big drag racing scene down there and amongst those cursed Kiwi's too. (jk) Would love to check it out sometime if I can make it to the other side...

Back in the day (late 80s early 90s) I frequented a yard in Cicero IL. I could by 350s all day long for $100.00. They were guarnteed to not be busted inside if they were we could bring them back for exchange. When I asked him what he did with all the engines he pulled (he had them pilled up all over) he told me he sent them by container ship to Australia the used them for racing?? I guess he was selling them by the #.

Our Drag Racing scene is not as big as yours, but yes, we do have a great little following around the country at regional tracks and a few of our major tracks as well.

the trouble with our major tracks is they are in NSW and QLD and for us to travel say to Sydney, its a 7 - 9 hour road trip one way and QLD is approx 17 hours from Melbourne one way to say Willowbank track. It costs lots of dollars to trailer the car, accommodation etc, plus if you break something that's a big cost too.

I enjoy working on the Rodder's Life program, i get to meet all the fantastic Rodders and when I go Drag Racing, I get to hang out with my Drag Racing friends too. Working with AWMN means I get to meet Ordinary women doing extroadinary things too, I really can't complain about my life at all!

Drag racing in Australia does'nt have the money in it like the USA ( corporate sponsors and the like), racers do it Oz for the love of it mostly!

If you get to Australia, let me know and I will make sure you get to see lots of racing and lots of rods too!

Chev engines are pretty popular here. most people run 350's or 400 chev's, I know that the cost of building a chev is cheaper then say a Holden engine and part availability is good too.Lots of Drag racers, Jet sprint boat racers, sprint cars and boat owners in general run chev engines from what i can see.

I have found that Australians are'nt educated in the way of the mopar like the americans, a few years ago I would'nt have picked a mopar over our Holden stroker engine, but since I have raced one, I can't understand why I had'nt gotten one earlier ??? Fantastic engine!!! Now I am very one eyed!!

I like your car charlie, I don't think I have ever seen a 2 door 53 chev wagon like yours before. Have you had your car long?

You still haven't seen a 53 2 dr chevy wagon like mine . Its a 53 Ford wagon. I just realy liked the body style so I got it to play with for awhile. I've had it about a year and a half. The engine is Chevy. Should be on the road this summer.

Sorry Charlie, got the ford engine and chevy thing mixed up! I was on the internet very early this morning, not really awake at the time!

I still have not seen a 53 Ford wagon though, what size chevy are you running?What's next after the wagon?
