I have been a member for about a month. Last february my wonderfull husband brought me a 71 monte. I had one as a teen and really wanted another one. It is pretty much stock except for the engine. It has a 350 that has been re-worked to a 392. I really enjoy spending my days fixing her up. Hope to one day race it one the track. So far all it has needed it new shocks all around and some tranny work.

Great looking old Monte!! Welcome to CHR. As for the shocks, I've had very good performance from KYB shocks. They're not a Bilstein, but they're not priced like them, either....Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

thank you for the welcome. I put monroe shocks all around. standard in the front and air max in the rear. the car needed attitude. Liked monroe prices and warranty.

thank you Don
next part of the project is too replace the front seal on the tranny. it is a stock 350. have been offered a th400 just need to change the torque converter. but with the 400 and the 10 bolt rear i would lose about 15 horses. so i decided to just rebuild the 350.

Welcome and a real nice Monte, one of Chevy's better efforts IMHO. I like the wheels, reminds me of what I had on a '57 Bel Air in the late '60's.Ken Thomas

engine
I do all the work on the car but the engine it came with had the edelbrock rpm performer package installed. So i went to the edelbrock web page and punched in all the numbers and it gave me a ratio of 392 horses at 400 lbs torque. not bad considering my hubby only paid 3k for the car.

Welcome to CHR! Nice Monte! As to the wheels they look to be typical smoothies... could be from any number of manufacturers such as Crager, Wheel Vintiques, US Wheel, etc. These three are sold by Summit Racing and replacement center caps run between $10 and $20 depending on make. Check their website and look at the wheels and see if you can find one like yours and then order the center cap.
