New guy from Ca. with pics

    Hello everybody,

This is my first post, but i have been using this site for information for a couple months now....thanks. Currently iam rebuilding a 55 chevy bel air 4 door, i ve replaced the original 265 v8 and drive train with a 350 from 1969, new trans, rearend, radiator and wiring and everything attached to that.
I also own a 53 ford ranch wagon with the flathead still, it needs a complete rebuild on the car, a 49 ford deluxe coupe, its completely stripped out, and a 65 bug that iam finishing a rebuild on.

well here are some pics of the 55.

And also a couple pics from the finish line of the Great Race, here in Anaheim Ca, we saw the winner cross the finish line, not sure what the car was but its blue and has the 73 on the grill. The rest of the pics are of contenders crossing the finish line.

Welcome to the site. And POR 15 is good stuff. I used it alot on my 99 Sonoma when i bagged it and redid the entire back half. That stuff seems bulletproof.

Cars looks nice, good find. Second registered owner... damn.

Knucklehead, the 55 is shaping up nicely. I kinda like the idea of a 4dr now that I am older. Works much better when you go visit the kids and grandkids. Looks like you have quite the varity of vehicles also.

Knucklehead, Welcome to CHR, glad you decided to join in with the discussions. And thanks for the pic's especially the ones from the Great Race! A friend of mine from Dade City Florida was a participant in the race with a 1940 Packard. They drove from Dade City to Philadelphia and joined the race and made it all the way to St. Louis. St. Louis was the end for them as they had engine problems and couldn't go on.

Sounds like you have several toys in your collection in addition to the 55, post some more photos when you get a chance. We love photos!

"Little old lady from Newport Beach"...........wasn't that a Jan and Dean song??

Hey, welcome to the forum. Your '55 looks terrific, and I'm like Duane, starting to like four doors more and more. Thanks for posting the Great Race pictures. I've always thought that event was so cool. Bunch of old cars built with really old parts driving cross country like that. I think Corkey Coker won it a while back, or at least was in it.

How did you like working with the Por15? I've heard it is great stuff.

    Hey guys,

Thanks for the reply's, your all welcome for the pics of the Great Race, i have more (like 150) but need to resize them, i'll post them in the event forum later today.

I wasnt too much of a 4 door fan until i saw this car, i have had this thing for 55 chevy's since i was a kid, i used to dream about them. But when it came time to buy one, the 2 doors were too far gone and too much money, and none of them ran. plus the 4-door is a "family car" car fun for the whole family.

The 55 was completely original when i bought it, i wanted to buy somethng and drive the hell out of it at first, it was in great shape with little to no rust, descent paint, originall 265 v8, power glide, rearend, and suspesion. So far i have replaced the front suspension with dropped spindles, springs and disc brakes, new rebuilt motor from 1969 camaro with the 1970 corvette heads, new th 400 trans from TCI, rearend upgrade, new radiator from Mattsons radiator, (i just want to sleep with that radiator under my pillow its so damn nice) and a A/C set up.

over all ive built this car to be a family car and a daily driver, something very reliable and lots and lots fun for me my wife and kid, my other cars, the 53 and 49 i would like to go another direction with those builds, but thats in the future...need to finish the 55 first....... so thanks for the welcome everybody

some 4 doors you come across are still in geat shape, their not all hacked up and full of holes, and with my limited building skills its a great car for my first american car rebuild, ive helped on family friends rebuilds, a 47 ford coupe, 57 ford wagon and a 62 galaxie and ive done a few vw's of my own, but american steel is where my heart is

Por-15 really is great stuff, you have to get their metal prep and the de-greaser along with it to really make it bond correctly, but its simple to use, brush on or roller, never spray it. the only problem with it is its a little too shinny and it will find a way onto your skin no matter what you do, and it will stay there for about 3 weeks, so be aware of that, but overall its a great product and i would definetely recomend it.

    Welcome knucklehead,
I agree about not being a four door fan until my dad brought home a 31 Chev sedan with four doors. That was a great little car, that the entire family could enjoy.
