Another New One, from Kansas
Not just new, but real green about hot rods. After watching some of these TV shows about hotrods (Boyd, Shine), I have been getting the itch for something, just not sure what and how to get it. Hope to learn a lot here, and this sure looks like a place to get info.
Went to a cruise in Belton, Mo. this past weekend, and that only made it worse. They sure had a lot of vehicles there -- probably several hundred.

Welcome to CHR, Leaky! I am sure that you will find a lot of great information and many of the answers to things you seek. The people here have an enormous amount of experience in all phases of our hobby. Although very few here will claim to be an expert, the reality of it is that many are. So I hope you have questions and enjoy your stay.
BTW, as you have already found out going to car shows just fans the flames of desire even higher. Best to get that lust under control while you can.Bob

Welcome - from an ex-Overland Park resident
There are some excellent shows around the KC area. Usually one a year - at least - out at the NASCAR track. There's the World of Wheels at the Civic Auditorium in KCMO. As I remember, Longview Farms in Lee's Summit used to have a show every year.
The KC area is a hotbed of rodders, if you know where to look. Also, the Street Rod Nationals in Springfield are not to be missed. Unbelievable event.
Wander out to Pete and Jakes in Peculiar. They'll show you through the shop. Or, go over to Atchison and tour Redneck's shop.
You've got the bug . . . go with it, it's fun.Jack

touring the shops
Funny how you mention Rednecks, I am picking up my 33 cabster from them labor day weekend (they are real good to work with), with a Pete & Jakes chassis, of course my wife was wondering why we were waiting until then to pick it up until she found out that Good-Guys are having a show in Kansas City that weekend also
But think about what YOU want, not the flavor of the week that is on TV, and how much you want to drive it.

Welcome to the forum. That's good advice eticket gave you. Find something that really turns you on and do that car. It is also not a bad idea to buy someone elses car the first time around and gain some experience making it yours. Lots easier than starting from scratch........believe me! Usually lots cheaper too.

Thank you all for your advice. I have already contacted Rednecks, and they are sending a catalog. I plan to make a trip up there soon just to see their shop, etc. Should be fun.
I kinda guessed that buying existing from someone else is wise, and saves money. I'll go to as many shows as possible to help me learn, plus this forum.
Concerning those TV shows, I just find them entertaining, but I wouldn't think too seriously about any of their cars, if for no reason other than I couldn't afford 'em!!
At least I got the wife primed on the idea last night, as I nervously showed her the Rednecks web page. She was receptive, so I hurdled the first barrier!
