HI All!!!
Whats up everyone. I am a 18 year old male living in Brownsville Texas. Ever since I was a child I was into mechanical things. Since I was 16 I have REALLY wanted to build my own small block. Thus far I have rebuilt two honda mopeds and play with my nitro powered Traxxas T-MAXX. Well thanks to some great advice from this site and some books I am making a parts list. I knew it wasn't going to be cheap but DANG!!
Good Luck with All of Your Projects,
-Chris.

Welcome Chris. Most of us on here probably started off with stuff like lawn mower engines on go karts, so you are not alone. Yup, this hot rodding isn't the cheapest hobby in the world, and I still haven't found one that is.
Good luck with your future ventures.
Don

Welcome Chris, lots of good info here all you have to do is ask (and listen )
Darn Don you had a lawn mower with an engine
My first was a washing machine Briggs and Straton (seems I blew the head off mixing my own fuel).I've NEVER seen a car come from the factory that couldn't be improved.....

You are in the right place, Chris.
Expense is nearly always a problem for a young guy just getting started in this hobby, and, come to think about it, expense is usually a problem for us card-carrying geezers, too!
You will find people here who can help you get the greatest results from what you have to work with and how much you are able to spend. What's more, they really want to do it. No matter which direction your interests may take you, be it street rods, drags, round and round, or whatever, there's somebody in this group who has been there and done that.
So, when have a question, don't hesitate to ask it for fear that somebody might think it's dumb. It won't be. You will get quick and courteous responses from experienced people who know their stuff.
Welcome! Glad to have another Texas Boy!

500cady that boat is SICK!!! lol. I would LOVE to see it. wow 87mph. How do you keep her cool? rig up some kind of cooling system? my buddies cigarette boat with a mostly stock 454 chevy tops out at 65mph. not even close! power to weight ratio huh? Losi makes very cool stuff. I am not a racer myself, but I strongly considered it once.
Glad to see a fellow nitro burner!

the boat is water cooled with billet heads that a friend of mine made for them. it picks up water and forces it through the head and the rest is air cooled with air pulled into it with scoops.. we are guessing it make's about 7hp per engine after all the work we did to them. it will go 100mph as soon as i get good flat water. it weights around 45-50# and the engine turn about 13000rpms the props will only last for 5-6 runs because of the water being like sand paper at that rpm. i won the nationals in 96 for on road mod 1/10 sedan.

Just remember...
You can build a chevy small block for anywhere from $500 (rebuild) to $5000 (or much much more....)
Dont let people tell you need the best of everything on your first engine... do a simple rebuild, throw in some flat top piston (dont have to be forged) and a MILD cam... youd be surprised what you can do with...
And DONT OVER CARB!!Allengator

Welcome, Allengator is right. I wouldn't go hog wild on my first build, I would Do things like an aluminium intake, flattops, headers, and a descent cam and carb until you get it all downpat. As far as this not being a cheap hobby, you gotta spend your money on something! It might as well be loud and go fast!!!I ain't dumb, I just ain't been showed a whole lot!
