    Hello from TX!

What's up everyone! Just want to introduce myself. My name is Daniel Stewart and I have been a hot rodder for about 16 years now. Although it has been a hobby of mine for a long time, I've always wanted to make a career out of it. So, after 13 years as a heavy industrial mechanic, I've decided to try and find a position in a local hot rod shop as an entry-level builder. I have lot's of experience in chassis and drivetrain, but zilch body experience. To overcome that, if I can't find a hot rod shop that will take me in, I'll just find a body shop to at least learn the major area that I don't know. I look forward to learning a lot from all of you ole timers, so please be patient with me if I ask what some you may think is a dumb question.

Welcome Dan............no dumb questions here whatsoever. You might want to check with Jimmy Shine, might be an opening at SoCal, if they finally had the brains to fire that dumb chick.

Wish you well in your search.

Hey Dan, welcome to the club.I know what you mean,I've still got a lot to learn myself. The way I see it, the only dumb question, is the one not asked. I've done a little body work, the best advice I can give is, don't be intimidated, and be patient.

    Later bud........Adam
    I ain't dumb, I just ain't been showed a whole lot!

Welcome to CHR Dan. An option might be to take an auto body course at a community college in the area at night and keep your day job!!! Anyone who tells you he has nothing left to learn on Hot Rods is a liar, been at it 40+ years and still learning new things all the time!!!! Sheet metal fabrication goes hand in hand with the body work on Hot Rods, another area that might have some opportunity to learn in the evening!!

Learning must be difficult for those who already know it all!!!!

    Say, Dan,

If I might hitchhike on Dave's suggestion, Tarrant County College (South Campus) has a very good auto body department. My brother took their training.

I know that the south side of Fort Worth is a healthy haul from Mesquite, but just in case you might be interested you might call TCC and visit a class or two.

Or, you could send me a PM and I'll give you baby brother's phone number and you can talk with him. One suggestion, though, don't call him after eight in the evening. He usually goes to work at four or five AM, so he might be a tad unhospitable if you do.

    Incidentally, "baby" brother is 71.

    Oh, yeah, and WELCOME!

Yeah, going to a community college or trade school would be nice. But, my schedule changes all the time (days, evenings, graveyard) and I usually work 80hrs+ per week so school is pretty much out. Going to a rod shop or body shop would result in me taking about a 50K+ pay cut per year, but my wife and I have put aside some cash, got our finances in order and we should be just fine.
