    Irelands Child had to reregister

I'm NOT a newbie - I tried to change my email address after the previous breakdown (too many spams) and while the forum recognizes me, wont let me post. Brent has a couple of responses to his PM back to me but evidently has not had a chance due to multiple failures of hard drives to "fix" my original site name and get me back with my 800 - 900 plus posts.

Brent - I want to be back to ME! PLEASE!!

Useful?? Why start now?? Don't you mean take up(waste!) hard drive space

And Spam. Soul food for for us Midwestern WW2 babies. That, nicely fried in bacon grease, on bread with a hunk of Velveeta drooling out mmmmmmmgood. Maybe even with a hard fried egg. Still like it even if it has at least 900% of the day's recommended sodium, and 500% of the fat.

I wish to be DELETED from this site. I went into a Post and opened a link in the Post, and my computer got big time infected. I am not comfortable on a site that will let an infected link be posted.

It has been great, and I have surely learned some things, but the crap I am having to endure because of the Virus I caught on that Post isn't work it. I am having to pay an "expert" to hopefully eliminate the virus.

    Thank You,
    Jack

I don't know where you got the virus, but for sure it wasn't from this post - there are no links posted on this thread. Did you post and open files in his bandaid post while this one was down - if so, that one does have some corrupt files and some MAJOR spam. I would suggest that you contact Brent Mills with your problem and delete your post from this thread.

    NO..it was not this thread.

It was from a thread when the main system was down, and my computer is still suffering from the virus. I am hoping the computer doctor will be here today, but probably not. I had no way of telling from the thread, but it opened an X-rated website. There should be a blocker that does not allow X-rated links to be posted to a thread, that's my beef.

Re-registering was the only way back on(see my first post). As far as number of posts, I really could care less. The only thing it really does is designate an oldie(curmudgeon, maybe) from a newbie and possiblity lend credibility to responses. And yes, I do want to keep my "stage name" but Brent, with his server problems, hasn't really been able to spend a lot of time on that kind of complaint and I was having massive withdrawal symtoms

I can't speak as an owner/administrator for the forum, only as a user from essentially day one. This site has been relatively secure, though as we saw yesterday, we do occasionally get a spammer on. I think most folks are computer savvy enough to recognize these interlopers, for my part, if I see them early, post an entry to identify it as spam. Usually, sometime within a fairly short piece of time the thread is tossed out..................most if not all of the thanx for that goes to Bill.

As for the temporary site that comes up from time to time as a "space holder" for this one, it obviously has lower security thresholds based on the number of erectile dysfunction, porn related, and other bottom feeder threads that pop up. Which in my view points to how secure THIS site is since we don't get those on a daily basis.

Jack, it's unfortunate that you got stung, hope you're able to get it repaired without too much angst and discomfort (read expense), but I would have to say that your experience appears to be a minority one, and it would be a shame to lose your input. However, for anyone else, I don't see this as a major problem that would warrant undo concern. And of course, this is a good time to remind everyone that security begins at home. Make sure you have up to date virus and spyware protection on your machine, and that it's functioning at all time and properly. Keep your cache/temp files cleaned up as often as possible. Do frequent backups (though I'm probably more guilty of ignoring my own advice here than anyone )
