    I also had a 1971 Monte Carlo . The one I had was a 350 270HP TH350 12 Bolt 331 gear . And it was all black . I do miss that car . I also had two 1970s and a 1972 and a 1979 . Your car looks good !

Your switch maybe ok . Check your shift linkage adjustment . If it is a floor shifter the cable may have stretched . But if the switch is bad put your car in neutral and remove old switch . Line up marks in neutral and install new one . Then place in park . Try to start you should be able to start it in park and neutral . I still think you need a linkage adjustment . Check the control rod from the column to the trans . COOL

i have already checked the adjustment. This is on the column with the shifter there also. ignition went out a while back after looking at the price for a oem i installed a hidden push button igntion. wired so that it will not start without the key turned. car has been parked for quite awhile as i had to replace the motor mounts. then noticed that my reverse lights were not working. checked the plug to the tranny and all fuses and wires. then thought about the neutral safety switch. thanks so much for the help. there is so much that i am learning as i come across another area that needs work.
