New B From Ohio
Hello everyone,
I am sort of a new person around here. I think I joined this forum in 2005 but only made three posts.
A little bit about me: My name is Thomas and I am 20 years old. I have been into cars for about six years now. I got my first car, a 68 SS Chevelle when I was in 8th grade. It took two years for my father and I to restore it. He helped me build my first engine for the car (350) then just this past summer we built a 396 for it and it runs great. I live in Ohio and love going to Goodguys in Columbus.
As for my other two cars: I have a 72 Chevelle project car, that is going to have an 85 TPI and hopefully twin T-3s someday.
I always wanted a Hot Rod after I got into cars, I really wanted a deuce coupe but of course the budget would never allow . I found a 26 or 27 Model T sedan body for a decent price at a local car show, of course with the Ohio rust. I have not done too much to it yet, just some door work mainly. I have a model A frame for it, 28-29 A grille shell, some random guide lights, 350 being built to look more like a 265, Caddy air cleaner, 32 dash (repro of course), and thats about it so far. Dont worry its not going to be close to a Rat Rod build, I want to go for a traditional style rod or as much as the budget can allow.
Thanks for reading the rant,
ThomasMe: I don't know how to build a hot rod.
Old Hot Rodder: You ever build a model car?
Me:Yeah...
Old Hot Rodder: Well instead of using glue you weld.

Thanks for the welcome.
Heres a few pics.
350 in 68
396 in 68. Dont have any finished pics yet, too lazy.
The 72, it is in better condition than the picture shows. I have a new pass quarter and rocker panel. It does have front sheet metal.
The 27, and yes it is as bad as the picture shows. In the pic it is on a T frame but is now on the A frame with stock A suspension.

Great Photos of them car's . There are some guys here that are real good with building BB Chevys . I have build some strong 396/402 engines in the past . But My thing is the SB Chevy builds . I have built many of them . And some on a budget that would make 375 HP . Just stay here and you will see how sharp these guys are . They know the best heads cams and intakes to make cars Rage . COOL

Thomas, can't say welcome since you'be been here for a while, but can say I'm glad you decided to post and show us your rides. The 68 Chevelle is a sweet looking ride. I've always like that body style. My brother in law had a 69 with the 396/375 hp 4spd stick. I used to borrow it when I needed wheels to get to work. Work trip was 42 miles one way. That bad boy would pass everything on the road, except a gas station. I had to give it back after a few days, that or file for bankruptcy.
Keep us up to date with your projects. Glad you decided to stop lurking.Bob

Thanks for the compliments.
Tango, I am going to be rebuilding the 350 that was in the 68 again. This time destined for the 72. Would you know about twin turboing these engines, Ill need some tips on building the engine for turbos. I think Im going to put a 327 crank in it to squeez out some more RPM, get some rollers, and some good forged pistons.
Mopar34, I bet that would cost a lot driving that thing back and forth 42 miles.
My car is close to a 69 the color and the engine is a 69. The car was originaly a White, black Vinyl top, 325 horse 396. I built the engine pretty close to what Chevy High Perf. Mag built a few years ago (Frankin Rat, I think) They took an oval port 396 and tried to get 375 horse rectangular port numbers. They acheived slightly over 375 HP. Nice build and great cam.

Boy, that looks like home! I grew up in Illinois. We built our first street rod project in the barn, on a friend's hog farm. It was a lot of fun....except when the wind was off of the hoghouse! You'll know what I mean. :-)
Nice Chevelle!

Lol Yeah, I know what you mean. The sad thing is the hog barn has to be at least five hundred feet away, if not more. The wind blows just right sometimes. The good thing is we dont farm, so we dont have to mess with it on hot summer days.
Where in Illinois did you grow up? I have some family in Geniseo (pretty sure its spelled wrong)

68 CHEVELLE I think a 355 SB Chevy with a small blower build would be real COOL . Built right it should make 500 HP . I had a 1969 Chevelle with a factory 350-300 HP TH350 12-Bolt . That car would really smoke the tires . This is a photo of the car . Soon after this car was totaled in a crash

Hey Tango, thats a great picture. Its a pitty the car was totaled. Yeah, a 350 seems to move these cars heavy cars along pretty good.
As for the 355 with a supercharger, sounds like it would be a great powerplant. The only reason I really wanted to do turbos is so that I could turn the boost down and still get decent mpg out of the low compression tuned port injected engine, then turn the boost up when I want to. I would also assume it might be cheaper to go twin turbo (used turbos, that will be rebuilt) than the supercharger. However, I am not sure how well the engine would run on little to no boost and be built for x amount of boost.
