    Confusion............

I'm 15 years old, and I love cars! I ahve loved muscle cars and hot rods since.....probally when I was 5. So it is getting close to the time that I can drive, and I want to start looking for my car.

I don't want to buy an expensive car, I would like to buy a nice car that runs, but isn't perfect. I want to do some building on my own.

I know a pretty decent amount about cars, I think; but if you guys and girls can teach me some stuff I would greatly appreciate it. My goal for a car is from 1932-1934 and from the late 60's to the early 70's.

my suggestion is probaly different from everyone else here. But unless you have a very nice bank role it is really hard to have a rolling project that actully gets finished, i remember when I was young and got my first car as a rolling project it was easy building a second runnig gear, but when it cam,e down to serious body work it would take my truck off the road. My advise is to get a reliable transportation then look for your old but goodie to start in on.. Just my thought on it.. But its good to see the youth of america still interested in the rodding world of wrench turning

How much do you have to spend? Do you have a job or rich parents who will buy you what you want? If not you need a plan to get some cash. I mowed lawns to buy my first car.I never drove it on the road because I didn't know how to do a brake job.
I have a few project cars that I'll probably never find time to work on That I would sell for under $1000. If you lived around here I could hire you part time in my body shop to help pay for it.
I wish people would put their state in their profile. Smithtown could be anywhere USA. If I said I was from Portland it could mean I'm in Oregon or Maine. Jonney and I might be neighbors. I'm about 30 miles from Littleton N.H. unless Jonney lives in Colorado. I think there's a Littleton in Massachusetts too.
<--<< As you can see from my avatar I'm centrally located near Norway, Paris, Sweeden, Denmark, Etc.
You'll need at least $5000 to get a 32 to 34 project that only an expert could restore and double that for a rough but running car.
Your best bet would be to buy a 80s Camaro or Mustang that runs good. They're reasonably priced and can be hopped up as you go. There's also plenty of used parts in the junkyards for them. They're mostly V6s but you can swap in a small block V8 later. A firebird is usually cheaper than a Camaro even though they're both the same car.
Don't settle for an import. Nobody here wants you to become one of them ricers.

Well, I just got my first car I think. My only problem is the parents !

A guy about....2 blocks from me is selling a 70's Mach 1 for $3500!!! It runs good and all, paintjob is stock and stock interior, he just wants to sell. If I can convince my parents to let me have it, I am taking it.

My parents keep on saying "You're only 15 you don't need a car, we will need insurance on it". If I buy a car, and drop it in my driveway, and run it ever so often I don't need insurance as long as I don't leave my driveway, correct?

Well, the money to buy this car IS mine! I have done alot of work to get my cash, and I have saved up $13,000+! I don't want to use more than $5,000 for a car, since I need some money in the future.

If you got that much to play with insuring the car shouldn't be a problem. You can register it too and maybe your parents will teach you to drive in it. You'll still be under $5000. At your age you shouldn't have to save for the future. Start your own IRA account when you get a regular job. If you saved up $13,000 at your age you should be able to earn more in the future. Retired people have to save for the future not kids. Spend it all on the Mustang. If you're go broke just work harder and get more money. That's the American way.

Wish I would have put some money in a IRA when I was younger.

Don't know where you live Tradskin but in my county you can't have non tagged cars sitting in your driveway or yard. If you do they need to be covered.
Now is this not some stupid s*** ?
They make no distinction between a rotted out Honda and an untagged, cherry auto.
    Stupid politicians!
