hey now
Finally got a project so after lurking for a long time, figured i could use some help. First some info about me...
Older guy, Calif native (left once for 5 years to try Hawaii, but had to give it up cause there's only so much work there), USMC graduate 1968 - 1973, and yes i did get to enjoy the beautiful white sand beaches of the then RVN.... more wifes and children than anyone would probably want.... heh heh heh... have had a number of cars thru the years; numerous vw's, a 53 chevy sedan, a 54 chevy panel truck, a honda accord (embarrassing, but with 322 thousand on it and still getting approx 33 mpg, i will drive red-faced).. Graphic Artist now, (like most a bunch of different careers prior to this one)... anyway on to the meat of this...
Just purchased a 65 chevy pickup (read flatbed) from cars for causes for $500. Body is reasonable, the radio works, it has a 250 in six with HEI, edelbrock manifold and holley carb already in place. oh yeah and a 3spd that is questionable at best... sometimes 3rd is there some not...
so the plan is this... i'd like to drop the front 2 1/2"( dropped spindles) - 3" in rear (springs)... and i would like to put in a 5spd ( i love the motor but need the gears) freeway is where it will live most of the time.... Suggestions for donor trans? S-10 or Camaro or ?????
if i left anything out just let me know......
and now in the tradition of all forums.....

Welcome to CHR, not a lot of flaming on here, mostly a mild mannered bunch that like Hot Rodding...
If you're leaving the six popper in the truck most any of the late model OEM 5 speeds will work fine.. Mike Forte is an advertiser here on CHR and can help you out with most any information, pieces, parts, and advice you will need. Might want to click on his ad at the top of the page and drop him an email, or just PM him here on CHR, he's on here at least once a day.
Before I did much freeway cruizin' think I'd give some thought to some upgrades for the brakes, too!!! At freeway speeds them old drum brakes just ain't gonna cut it on that big old heavy truck!!!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!
