    Newbie from Albuquerque, NM

    Hi Folks,

I had stumbled on this site back in Sept. but have not posted till now. I've been out of the car "thing" for about 11 yrs., but picked up a '64 Ford Galaxie a few months ago and hope to have it running in about 18 months. Thinking of building a low-tech/ low buck retro type of ride, but the fun thing seems to looking for deals.

Welcome Tone Deaf, a lot of good knowlegable people here.

I've got an on and off 64 Custom project I've been working on a few years now (old school FE stroker). pretty fun project when I get time to work on it, at least I have it to the point where it moves under it's so power so I don't have to puch it around any more

I'm running an ongoing thread on it here on the site if you;re interested.

I've always have liked the Allisons and have wanted to go to Alabama, but have never found the time.
Thanks everyone. My 10 yr. old has accused me of having a "crush" on every car I see, and I believe she's right. I was on the fence between a 460 or 390, but decided to go with a 390 since this is a retro build. Probably start scrounging for a toploader and a front disc brake conversion kit after the Holidays.

Mike, Thanks for the heads up and what tranny did you go with? And were the front disc brakes all ready installed?
Your probably aware that there is a guy in Kingman who has about a dz. 63 1/5 and 64 Galaxies, and he's parting them out.

Hi Again Tone Deaf. I went with a C6. I put brakes together using wrecking yard spindles (one minor mod had to be made) and off the shelf replacent parts. This is basically the "KIT" most people sell for a lot more than you can put it together for. You might want to read thru my post there might be a good deal in there that will help you.
