For some purists "HOT RODS" are only specific cars produced in a specific historical period. But for me, and I hope for many others of you, hot rod is any mechanical means that completely satisfy desires of its owner. Passion is the engine of life! Your Ferrari clone is a hot rod.

Does John Force drive a hot rod?! Well I've heard him call his funny a hot rod about everytime he is interviewed about it.
Hot Rod : Noun
•S: (n) hot rod, hot-rod (a car modified to increase its speed and acceleration)
from wordnetweb.princeton.edu/perl/webwn
Why yes, I believe you have a hot rod there!

Aha,,a keenly fought arguement in all parts of the world... gotta agree, although certain factions down here, and probably up there, would disagree..Tuff...I like it,and specially kool when ya modify an Italian,or German car to suit your own needs. The dictionary quote says it all..Micah 6:8

Looking good and if I may ask a question please,is that a Datsun Z diff and will it handle the power from a strong 350 chevy??? And never be too worried about slow progress on your project as everybody here will tell you that building your car is a hobby to be enjoyed but not at the expense of your normal family life. So thanks for posting an update and we are all here to help in any way even if only to encourage you when things are going slow in your mind.I maybe a little crazy but it stops me going insane.

Thanks for the encouraging words. I have to say that even though I'm into my fourth year on this project, my enthusiasm is still running high.
As for the diff, it is in fact the one that came in my donor 260Z. According to the JTR V8 conversion manual, it's fine for cruising with my mild 350, but won't handle excessive abuse. The 280Z diff is "nearly indestructible in a V8 Z". If mine doesn't hold up, the 280Z is a simple swap.Wes

Im part of that group of stroppy purists who dont like pro stock being called "factory Hot Rod" and dont think J Force is driving a hot rod down the quarter, and who doesnt think your car is a hot rod either.
But I think its way cool & Im happy to have you (and it) here. I owned a twin turbo 300zx for about 5 years and think they are great cars, but they aint hot rods.
And the Datsun rear ends are plenty strong. A mate with a blown 427 chev in his bucket is drag racing it and its got a Nissan Skyline diff in it. He cant break the diff.

Anyone remember the controversy that Don Varner's rod caused in the early 80's? Rear engine on a 23 chassis...
