    New Old (not stock) Guy

Hi Guys, My name is Chopper Dave.

I live in the Yakima Valley of Washington State. (the dry part) Been a Hot Rodder and Harley guy since the late 60's and have built a few cars & bikes.

I recently (Jan 2010) bought a Herman's Fast Glass body. This is my new project a nineteen-nineteen Chevrolet Series D or 490 "T" Bucket style Roadster... It will be very low as you can see from my inspiration picture, am working out an airride system for it...Blown Big Block Chev instead of the 426 Hemi and a soft top instead of the fiberglass fliptop that Scott made. Airbags so it will (hopefully) lay frame rail.
    Pics here: at the bottom

This idea of building a "T" Bucket came from experiencing this car firsthand in about 1980

Even though I have built a bunch of Repop Duece Roadsters over the years the desire for a bucket has never diminished.
In November of 09 I upgraded the engine in my dually to a Vortec 7.4 and have a good 454 sitting on my stand.
So I decided to build a car around that Big Block Chevy... In my searching for a stretched body that I could actually fit in I came across Hermans Fast Glass.

Eureka! Is it just me or does that cowl look kinda Chevrolet?

    1919 Chevrolet Series 490 Touring.

A plan was hatching: Build it as a Chevy rather than a Ford. Something a little different...

Then I found a 1919 Radiator Surround out in Iowa:

Bought one of SoCal's new Forged Drop Axles:

    Fabricated some Tapered Rails:

And laid it out on the shop floor:

This is the latest mock up:

I am on a couple of other forums and found you all thanks to Don, yes I read all 200+ pages of the 3K build

You are a brave man reading all 200 pages of the 3K build

    Welcome to CHR.....

PS: Now the question is, you going to use the drivetrain out of the Nissan Z or the Ford Super Duty also sitting inside your shop
Instead of being part of the problem, be part of a successful solution.

I saw your "inspiration" car (or one nearly identical to it) on the way to the NSRA nationals in about '77 or '78. We stopped either for gas or lunch (too long ago to remember) and it was at the same exit. It drove by as I was getting out of my car and my camera was out of reach at that moment. I figured I'd get a pic of it at the Nats, but I never saw it again. It is/ was one cool ride.

The body you are using looks like the Dave Koorey body that I am using on my track-T. Mine does not have the opening right door, but from what I can see, even the floor reliefs are identical. I wonder if Herman's and Koorey used the same buck to make their molds..?

Anyway, this will be a fun build to watch. Keep those pics coming.

Thanks for the welcome, actually I am using the 1988 454 out of my Dually as it was upgraded to a 7.4 vortec engine last winter. Am in the process of collecting parts to build it into a blower engine with aluminum heads

It is very simular to the Koorey body that you are using though mine doesn't actually have the reliefs or a floor. If I had found the body that you are using I would have bought it instead as my preference would have been no opening doors. That said the Hermans body is very sturdy and nicely finished.

I will take a pic of the inside next time at the shop
