New buy from Southern California (Inland Empire)

Hows it going guys/girls? I own a 52 Ford Pickup. My grandpa bought it in 67 for 25.00 dollars. I Still have the original bill of sale. I was given the truck years ago and decided it is finally time to get rollin' on it. I would like to build it as a full blown street rod. Can't wait to start pulling it apart and getting going on my build. Once I figure out how to list pictures I'll put some up.

    Joshua

Hi Joshua, my best advice to you is not to start until you have $25,000 in the bank dedicated to building the truck, or at least X dollars a week to contribute to the truck fund with an eye on the total of about $25,000.

Thats kinda what I've been pondering. I am in no hurry for a finished project. I am 29 and have 2 kids and I would love for them to be able to help me work on it. I thank you for the input.

Welcome to CHR, Joshua. That's a nice truck, and having it tied to your grandpa makes it special. While Tech's right, your build starts with a plan and that doesn't cost you anything. I'd start by getting it up out of the mud. If you have a spot that it can be in out of the weather its a real bonus, but if not put down a sheet of heavy plastic sheeting (to slow down moisture wicking up from the earth), get it up on secure stands that you can safely work around and cover it with a heavy plastic tarp tucked in atop your plastic on the ground. You can do a lot of cleaning and prevention work without spending much money, and depending on their age, you might even enlist the kids to clean grime and rust, too As you get into it you can figure out your power train, stance, and even what you eventually want to do for body and paint. Build yourself a 3 ring binder, segregated by chassis, engine, body/paint, interior and start dreaming. Watch your local craigslist and you might pick up a power train for little or nothing, depending on what you want - time is on your side for deals. Guys (& gals) here can help address any unknowns, especially knowing that Bumps 52 is real, and then when you've got the money side worked out you'll be miles ahead!!
